Simmons College was founded on the premise that special attention must be given to social justice as it relates to gender. As a social enterprise itself, Simmons has a history of commitment to pioneering innovative solutions to social change with a specific focus on developing women leaders. Many of the staff, students, and faculty who are members of the Simmons community are here for this reason and passionately engage in gender-driven social entrepreneurship as a means to address social problems either through their work at Simmons or in other parts of their lives. With this rich history and highly equipped membership, Simmons College is uniquely positioned to become the leading academic institution in this field. As a result it is imperative that we continue to solidify our identity as a school that approaches gender and justice through the innovative lens of social entrepreneurship. This first annual conference is the initial step in bringing together the Simmons community to solidify that identity, and to build Simmons College into a leader in Gender-Driven Social Change.
