LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
I am a semi-pro photographer, in the process of revamping my identity as I begin to take on more paid work. I tend to shoot travel portraiture - coffee table book stuff.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
A logo for my photography identity. My trading name is Marco Ryan Photography. It will be used on my website and on some business cards. The logo could be as simple as my name in a contemporary font, with some clever design about how the words are laid out or spaced or it could be a more sophisticated 3d logo or anything inbetween.
The website's background is likely to be black or very dark gray - so the image should work well on these colors. However I would want to see a version on white too - in case I print on white business cards.
I like subtle, sophisticated design work - nothing cheesy, nothing illustrated/cartoony and nothing that uses a camera body image (unless it is highly stylized) but there might be aspects of photography that you do want to use - aperture, depth of field etc. Alternatively a clever combination of letters, colors, and design could be very powerful. I like logos that have some web 2.0 feel (this might be the palette used or it might be some subtle reflection or lighting).
I am trying to find a balance between chic, corporate, contemporary and creative - all the Cs.
I am not looking for something really busy and complicated. Less is more, Good design is everything.
I am open to the color palette used. It could be duotone; it could be complementary, it could be Bright (though not pink). Something that will look well on the dark background of the website, but will also adapt to a white background if necessary for a business card.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Photo editors, other photographers, casual browsers.
They need to think that this is a very stylish professional outfit from the quality of the photographs to the clever and compelling logo.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Must NOT have Cartoons, illustrations or pictures of cameras, or images based on a strip of film.
MUST have style, clever use of photography concept or the name.
