LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Seda Systems is a start-up IT Consulting business located in Durham, NC. We offer services ranging from networking to storage and backup. We normally provide solutions that integrate into existing IT infrastructure, but can certainly lay down infrastructure from scratch if need be.
Our main specialties are Linux and High Performance Computing.
We are idealists, and believe that a business does not have to be evil. We put the utmost value on our customers and employees. We are excited and proud to make a living doing what we love.
We embrace Free Open Source Software as much as possible. However, sometimes a project calls for a proprietary piece of software to provide the best results.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need a really cool logo for "Seda Systems". In the logo, the name can appear as "Seda Systems", "SedaSystems", "seda systems", "sedasystems", etc.
We are going for simplicity with this logo.
We intend to use this logo mainly for our website (that doesn't exist yet) and also for print materials such as business cards and letter head.
The logo should look good in both white and black backgrounds.
The logo can contain a symbol and letters or just letters. I'm leaning towards mostly letters and a very small subtly-placed symbol of some kind. Letters should dominate the logo. If some sort of symbol or icon is used, it should not be taller then the letters. Essentially, it should not stand out too much.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our System Administrators have backgrounds in Biological Sciences. Therefore, our ideal customers are small Bio Tech start-up companies that produce massive amounts of daily on a Terabyte scale per day. We speak their language and are experts in delivering the kind of robust IT infrastructure that they require to stay ahead.
WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:
The following logos are appealing to us:
- Fedora ( http://blog.latcarf.com/uploads/misc/fed... )
- Ubuntu ( http://www.cpp-software.net/graphics/Ubu... )
I know I shouldn't mention colors, but I just can't help myself... I absolutely love the colors of the Fedora logo. I'll most likely refer back to the Fedora logo during post-project wrap-up.
Please keep in mind that we'd like the logo to stay unique so that we can soon Trademark it. BTW I don't want it to look too much like the Fedora or Facebook logo.
I really love the Fedora design. It seems like mirroring an S (instead of an F) can produce a helix (or sideways infinity symbol) in the same way. The helix in this could symbolize a DNA double helix. That makes a lot of sense when trying to appeal to our target customer, who happen to be Biologists.
I don't want the logo to be too detailed though. If symbols are used, I'd like them to just be used as subtle hints for what the business is about.
We also like the *font*, but _not_ the actual logo in the following screenshot:

We like what's currently going on here, too:

I like the use of brackets, curly braces, less than and greater than signs, etc. in a logo. These symbols are familiar to me and more than likely my customers (for which most are tech-savy).
This logo is pretty cool:

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:
We are trying to avoid a conservative ultra-corporate logo, if possible. We are attempting to convey a professional look. Simple and clean. The logo must be unique enough to Trademark though.
