LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Metro Mutts is a new pet store (primarily for dogs) located in a prime and trendy area on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.
Our store will launch in April and will include eco-friendly, high-quality, yet affordable pet products: food, toys, vitamins, leashes, and homemade organic baked dog food. We also plan to offer dog training, dog washing, grooming and puppy adoption services at a later date.
The owners are made up of two young husband and wife couples who love dogs and our Washington, DC community. We thank you all for your entries and interest in making our brand a huge success!
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need an elegant, artsy and playful identity (logo, business card, and postcard) to use in our store branding. We'd like to start generating excitement and awareness with a high-impact identity - bold and fun! It should appeal equally to men and women and should be modern. As for colors, we primarily like earth tones but would love to have a strong signature bold color for impact.
For LOGO imagery, possible graphics could include (but limited to):
1) our three dogs -(see attached image)
2) U.S. Capitol Building (emphasizing the location of the store)
3) our three dogs plus U.S. Capitol Building - in outline, simple form w/ color
4) clever use of "metro" and "mutts" - integrating dog or paw prints into design
The logo will be used on the website (which will be a content-rich e-commerce site), on t-shirts, print marketing materials, on store sign, etc.
For the POSTCARD design, we'd like a creative design direction (with photo and placeholders for title and text) to use as a foundation for our direct mail campaigns. The more eye-catching the better.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Dog owners living on or near Capitol Hill in Washington, DC; primary target groups include a) single professionals in their mid-30s, b) stay-at-home moms/young families and c) artists moving into new trendy areas of town. We live in the same community as the store and are friends with many of our potential customers. Our neighborhood is diverse in culture and interests. Our store neighbors include a tattoo shop (upstairs), a Bikram yoga studio, a coffeehouse and several live music bars/clubs.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
We like the style, simplicity and colors (note: this is a local competitor's logo)
We like the use of the emblem (but with our three dogs) and the colorful nature of logo; however, the style of this logo may be TOO cartoon-like
We like the playfulness of this logo
4. WE WILL HAVE SIMILAR PHOTOS LIKE BELOW ON OUR WEBSITE; GOOD LOGO INSPIRATION!
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
If it's possible to include simple images of our three dogs (see attached), we'd love that.

1) for the passionate pet lover
2) approachable and down-to-earth
3) urban yet upscale; located on Capitol Hill
Overall, design should be creative, elegant and clean.
