Main Street Wilmington, Ohio (an official Main Street Organization) in the town of Wilmington, Ohio pop. 12,000, founded in 1810 is seeking a historic-looking logo/seal to identify our National Historic Registered Downtown.
Wilmington is home to many registered Italianate buildings and the county seat of a primarily rural, agricultural county. Some pictures and views can be found on our website: www.mainstreetwilmington.com
The logo/seal will be placed on exterior signage- including street and parking signs, as well as banners- thus it must be easily reproducible and legible, but should also be intricate in keeping with a historic look. We are most interested in a seal looking logo- round, that should look ole timey or historic in some fashion- so harsh angles and bold texts may not work.
Citizens and visitors to our downtown area. We want to evoke historic charm. Share your favorite designs and what you like (font, color, style).
The logo will be reproduced most often in b&w. Style and Font is flexible- perhaps Italianate or art nouveau to keep with the period- but should be historic and/or look pen drawn. We absolutely must have (or we don't want to see) this in our design: The Murphy Theater marquee (which was added later) features often in other materials we have and should be used sparingly...
Incorporation of historic iconography (grain fields, raising sun, plains) or Italianate elements (building trims, etc.) even if not specific to Wilmington is important.
Attached is a .pdf of the Historic Wilmington Walking Tour which provides info on local buildings, etc. Landmark buildings, such as the Clinton County Courthouse or the Murphy Theatre could be incorporated.
The logo must be round- and ideally rimmed/banded with interesting historic detailing evoking an old seal and use the text 'Historic Downtown Wilmington' and '1810' lettered around.
Wilmington was not a major railroad center and is not located on a water body, the road network was/is the primary reason for its location and some roadway element could be incorporated.
