LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

Madison Childrens Museum (MCM) is an award-winning organization which fosters family and community connections, and provides a place where every child can learn through play in an interactive environment. MCMs hands-on exhibits and programs celebrate and encourage childrens imaginations and the power of play as the cornerstone of learning.

In 2010, Madison Children's Museum is opening a new facility in Downtown Madison on the Capitol Square. This new facility will triple the public space of the current museum, with the capacity to grow to five times its current size.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

With this major milestone, MCM is seeking a new logomark to build upon the 30-year history of the institution, drawing on the brand personality developed based on visitor and member perceptions, as well as the mission of the museum, and looking to the future of the museum, which will now be able to serve an older audience expanding the age range from birth to 8 to birth to 12.

The logo will be used on (but not limited to): stationery, signage, merchandise, and marketing materials.

Criteria for successful logo:

Contains a logomark that is recognizable and can be replicated on merchandise

Can be reduced in size

Easy to read typeface

Works in b/w and color

Timeless/memorable

Appeals to older audience (children ages 8 - 12, in addition to 0-8, as well as their caregivers)

Ideally would have horizontal and vertical treatments with appropriate aspect ratio

An award will be provided only to one winner.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Children birth to age 12

Caregivers (parents, grandparents, childcare providers, etc.)

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

For further direction, three concepts have been developed:

One concept is to use a human or human-like figure to depict both the physical and mental aspects of the museum experience.

Another concept is to show interaction between caregiver and child.

Lastly, is a concept incorporating the "flatiron" building structure (which is located on Madison's Capitol Square) reflecting a bustling, lively center for learning.

However, we are open to other ideas and concepts.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

The brand personality of the Madison Childrens Museum is playful, respectful of children and a place for intelligent play. Furthermore, its full of energy, imaginative and creates a sense of individuality.

Design direction

Overall, the designs should reflect imagination and growth, and a magical place for a child.

The logo mark should include the full name.
