LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
The client is an eclectic collection of historical sites, museums and gardens, ranging from pre-colonial to mid-20th century.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need a logo/logotype for this client that could include a mark or symbol. If used, the symbol needs to evoke a historical feeling but should not be from any specific period. The type for the logo should likewise be period-neutral. It should feel timeless and metropolitan, not trendy. It feels as though the logotype should use a serif font, but we could be proven wrong. We don't want it so light that it doesn't have presence, but we also don't want it so heavy that it feels clunky. Therefore, the weight for the type feels like it could range from regular to semi-bold. The logo overall should feel stable, cohesive and be flexible to work on solid colors, photos, etc.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Vacationers looking for enriching experiences for their families while on day trips or long weekends. This audience could also be looking for excursions while spending a week at the beach. We want them to get the impression this client is a national caliber historical attraction with a broad scope and offering an immersive experience.
WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:
Although we don't want to emulate the type or logo design of these brands, we do like the simple, yet proprietary feel of their logos.
Colonial Williamsburg: http://www.colonialwilliamsburg.com/
You can go to the Tryon Palace website ( http://www.tryonpalace.org ) but information on the site is not reflective of the direction this client is going in terms of branding. The current site is too narrowly focused on the colonial/pre-colonial period and feels too feminine.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:
The name Tryon Palace must be a part of the logo. We absolutely do not want a script or italic type treatment. We want all submissions in black and white, but with a two color application in mind. We want this to reproduce easily no gradients or screens.
