LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Like Digg, we aim to aggregate news from popular sites to tiny blogs bringing our users the best news on World of Warcraft as voted by our community. In other words, the community submits links to the news story and the community votes positively or negatively. If it receives a certain amount of positive votes, the story link is promoted to the front page.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
Here is your challenge. We need a logo that captures the fantasy nature of the World of Warcraft game while also evoking the concept behind the site - social news. This contrast between old looks but modern concept is what has been stumping us.
We are still busy building the systems on the back end so have no site to show you. However, please see sites like digg.com, reddit.com, designfloat.com and tipd.com to see how the site works. These are social news sites.
To "buff" something or someone is to make it stronger or more resiliant. When players group to attack an enemy in a dungeon, the "buff up" by applying "buffs" to their teammates thereby making them stronger or better able to withstand the enemy's attacks. In our context, stories are either "buffd up" because they are good or they are "pwned" or voted negative because they are bad.
The color scheme is up to you but it should tie into World of Warcraft feel (www.worldofwarcraft.com).
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
World of Warcraft players aged between 15 to 50 years. We want them to feel that we are a modern concept but retaining the look and feel of World of Warcraft.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Alas, we have not found any that is on point. However, we do like www.worldofwarcraft.com/wrath but our non-designer minds have a hard time mixing that with the concept of social news.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Obviously, we don't want to see anything that could be the copyright or trademark of Blizzard, the owners of World of Warcraft.
We are thinking that the logo, being a one word name, would probably focus on that name and the slogan "Player-powered World of Warcraft news." However, you're the designer and know better than us.
