association that provides bereavement support services to families who
have lost a child to cancer.

with other bereaved families via online forums, and honour their deceased
child via online memorial pages.
A staffed program that incorporates face to face and telephone
counselling, legacy work (i.e. creating photo-albums etc. to commemorate
the deceased), the facilitation of support groups, referrals etc.
All Constellation Project Australias services are research-based and founded on
the continuing bonds theory, which states that bereaved families always
maintain a connection with the decease, i.e. people never get over the death of
a loved one.
Constellation Project Australias approach veers from traditional grief support,
which aims to help people get over their loss. Our extensive research shows that
true healing comes about through assimilating grief, and preserving rather than
aiming to relinquish a sense of connection with the departed.
The significance of the name
The name Constellation Project Australia has resonance with the work and
purpose of the association on a number of levels:
1. Stars represent a light in the darkness, which is what our support
services will be for families during their grief.
2. A constellation, i.e. a cluster of stars, can represent a family. Stars shine
constantly, so too the memory of the deceased child perseveres in the
hearts of bereaved family members forever. Through legacy work, the
surviving family members can maintain a sense of spiritual connection to
the deceased child.
3. A constellation can represent a network of people, i.e. a support network.
4. The stars are also reminiscent of those on the Australian Flag.
