LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

The Oak Park Public Library serves the community of Oak Park, located eight miles west of downtown Chicago. Oak Park is nationally recognized for its commitment to diversity and its outstanding architecture.

The Oak Park Public Library enhances the quality of life in our diverse community by providing the resources and services for lifelong learning and enjoyment, the space and opportunities to gather and connect, and by fostering a love of reading.

The Library's collection includes fiction and nonfiction books, movies, CDs, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, reference materials, and local history information. Library cards are free to Oak Park residents but many services are free of charge and available to those without library cards. We also provide free programs that entertain, inspire, and educate.

The purpose of the Librarys teen website is to provide access to library services and resources virtually, similarly to what we do at our physical locations (answer questions, offer online tools, provide homework help, suggest books, etc.).

Our new teen website will be interesting, helpful, fun, and edgy, and will engage teens. The design, navigation, content, and services will cater to teens. Our new site will get teens attention and keep them coming back. Our new site will be a platform for accessing information, recommendations, tools, and services all in one place. It will be a place of community where teens will connect and share their opinions and interact with the Library.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo for our new teen website. The logo will also be used on print publicity (posters, palm cards, newsletter, etc.) and non-print publicity (electronic newsletter, screen savers, Facebook, etc.) to help promote the new site.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Our audience is Oak Park teens in grades 7 to 12 (age 12 to 18) and to a lesser extent their teachers and parents/guardians. It includes all genders, a diversity of races, and a range of family incomes.

We would like this audience to think that the Library is fun, interesting, and helpful. We want them to feel welcomed by and think positively of the Library.

The Librarys teen website is a better source for teen information and connection than other Internet sites because the information is vetted by trained librarians, specific to our community, and targeted to teens.

WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:

We are looking for a square or round logo that is clean, lively, and modern. We like simple and bold designs. We have a preference for gray.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:

The logo should be a graphic element (icon) that works with and without a text element. The text element is "OPPL Teen."

We have hired a consultant to design and build the new teen website using Drupal. You will find our preferred design comp at http://balanceclients.com/oppl/design/in.... This is not the final design of the website. The consultant is still making adjustments to this design based on our feedback and based on the results of usability testing. We provide this link to illustrate some of the thinking that has gone into this project to date. We will update this brief when the design revision is available.

We are looking for a logo for the new teen website. The new logo does not need to parallel the existing Oak Park Public Library logo (red flying book) or in anyway match the current teen website. The new logo does not need to use the word "library" or have a book image.

Avoid orange. Avoid images of people.
