LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
About Our Name
Dos Gallos, Spanish for "Two Roosters", was derived from the saying "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". The name was born on our first trip to a coffee farm in Guatemala where we gained insight into the challenges of many coffee producers. One challenge is that producers are paid once a year when their crop is harvested. If they do not receive the right price, their annual pay is often insufficient to cover operating expenses plus cost of living for the whole year. Some local coffee buyers will offer partial payment in advance to help bridge the gap. The catch is that they pay a lower price overall and producers are stuck in a vicious cycle. Producers continue to accept lower prices just so they can survive from one year to the next. For these producers, a bird in the hand is indeed worth two in the bush, and they continue settling for less.
Our vision is to work along side coffee farmers to capture the "two birds". At a minimum we want to pay producers the right price at the right time which will allow them to sustain the quality of their crop and their livelihoods. Over time we will also build close and lasting relationships with our partners so we can understand their personal needs and help fulfill them.
About Us
We are a husband and wife team based in Atlanta. We are looking to develop a strong local presence, which will appeal to consumers who demand fresh, locally produced foods. Here are some snippets from our (future) homepage introduction to give further insight into the vision of our company.
-Dos Gallos Coffee Roasters celebrates exceptional coffee and the artisans who produce it. Our partners in coffee growing regions around the world work hard year round to bring us the most amazing coffees you will find anywhere. We carefully roast each variety in small batches to coax out unique flavors and to provide you the freshest coffee possible.
-Our passion for exceptional coffee is paralleled by our passion to fairly compensate and promote the producers who supply us with green, unroasted coffee beans. Our vision is to establish direct relationships with each of our producers so that we can know them personally and better serve their needs.
-Everything we do at Dos Gallos has a bent toward environmental sustainability. From sourcing coffee that is grown with organic methods to using packaging that will quickly decompose, we are careful to make decisions that preserve the earth that has been given to us to care for and to cultivate.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need a logo for packaging, letterhead, website, and other marketing materials.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our target market is consumers looking for fairly traded, environmentally conscious, fresh and locally roasted coffee.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
See attached pictures to get a general feel for the stuff we like.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Wants
Should be easy to read.
Does not have to be in one color, but must be able to be turned
into one color for printing purposes (without looking bad)
Should have an 'organic' or 'natural' feel to it, which will help accentuate the
idea that we want our business to have a very strong link to
farms that produce the green coffee we roast and that we are an
environmentally responsible company.
Other considerations:
-We will package coffee in kraft bags
-We are thinking about stamping the logo on the front of the bag
and slapping a label on the back of the bag. You might want to
consider how the logo would look against kraft paper as well as
against an opaque label.
Don't Wants
Anything remotely resembling clip-art
Materials
Contract
