What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
#1: We want to communicate the mission of Shine On:
To provide a fun and supportive environment for children of any age to explore, experience, and challenge themselves through dance and movement. Shine On Dance & Movement Studio is a place where hard work is valued, and dedication is rewarded, but the most important part of the curriculum is helping kids tap into the pure, elemental joy of dance. Our goal is to help every child SHINE ON in their own special way.
#2: We want to communicate the physical environment or vibe that will exist in the classroom and studio space:
Clean and organized, modern but with warmth and charm, kid-friendly but not childish or tacky, classic but with current trends
#3: We want to communicate what types of people we are aiming to work with as students and clients:
Now, this is where it gets a little dicey - Shine On is primarily a childrens dance studio, but I would like to leave the door open to transitioning to an all-ages facility in the future (specifically, Id like to provide adult dance and fitness programming so that I can work with my peers). That being said, I want this logo to appeal to parents and children, but not to be so child-like that I could not add adult classes without having to fundamentally change my logo and branding.
What logo styles do you like (image + text, image only, text only, etc.)
When thinking about the logo, I usually envision text only, however, I would definitely be willing and interested in seeing what image + text logos look like.

WHY SHINE ON?
Throughout my entire dance career, I had always been told that I was great dancer, but what made me great, and what made people want to watch me had nothing to do with technique. I was scolded by every teacher because of my bad feet, and bad ankles, and big knees, and bad turn out, and so on, but despite all that, I found a way to succeed in dance in my own way. I had such a deep love for and connection to this form of art and expression, that when I danced, I would SHINE. My ability to tap into that main line of pure, unadulterated joy was what allowed me to connect to the audience, to my teachers, and to my fellow dancers. It didnt matter that I couldnt hyper-extend my legs, or perfectly point my foot every time. There was a big ol ray of light shining right out of my chest, and it was so real that I could feel it.
WHY OPEN A DANCE STUDIO?
I want to take my experience as a student and lover of dance and movement, and pass along the lessons that I have learned, and teach children that being perfect is not what matters most in this life, and certainly not in dance. I want to create a place where kids can come and feel challenged and excited about learning new things, work hard, and show focus and discipline, but at the same time, feel supported, safe, encouraged, and motivated by goals other than constant perfection.
LOGO USES:
- Website (currently under development)
- Business cards
- Signage for the storefront
- Retail items (ie - t-shirts, tote bags)
COLORS and SHAPES I LOVE:
The the space will be mostly white and neutral walls, with hardwood flooring throughout. It is a 100 year old building, so I want to keep things clean, neutral, and classic, but with some accents of color in the decor to keep things fun and fresh! I would like that theme to continue through all of my branding, marketing materials, website, and logo.
I am really into gold and the colors of the sunset (you can Google Negril, Jamaica sunset for examples :)), but I also love the cool, light shades of green, blue, purple, and gray.
I love clean lines and basic, geometric shapes.
