LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Jonah is a website similar to most popular CSS Galleries, like csselite.com, but which features Jewish educational websites and reviews based on content, as opposed to layout and design. The project was conceived and initiated by Jew It Yourself, a non-profit start-up which develops online resources for self-directed Jewish learning. You can see the site, under development, at jewityourself.com/jonah.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
I'm envisioning a logo of a whale's tail popping out of water. The name of the website is Jonah, as in the bible story of Jonah and the whale. The slogan is "Dive in."
If you have a different visual concept, I'm open to seeing it.
The colors should be complementary to #0099cc, #006b8f and #00455d, which is the site's primary palette, unless you recommend a different palette with the logo for use on the site. If there's a better look, changing the background graphics and link colors, etc. is not such a big deal.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
North American Jews in their 20s & 30s. This group tends to be white, liberal and upper-middle class. We want them to feel that this site is friendly, welcoming and easy to use.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Similar visual concept:

http://www.mytown.ie/images/business/wha...
http://logo.cafepress.com/3/4201950.1645...
I'm open to seeing different styles of approach. It could be cartoonish. It could be vector-logoish.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
The title and slogan. Please, no overt Jewish symbols like stars of David or menorahs.
