LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
I'm a freelance Ruby on Rails developer and, at the moment, the bulk of my work comes from client jobs. I'd like to start building my own sites so that one day I can make money while I sleep and retire somewhere with a beach and plenty of sunshine.
The concept behind FindMy.TV is straightforward - it's a simple, uncluttered site that uses faceted search (http://uipatternfactory.com/p=refining-s...), clean design and a tasteful use of Ajax to help people choose their new TV.
I'm building the site on a tight budget in my spare time between doing client work. It's still under development and should be launching within the next month.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
I need a logo that will appear in the header on every page of the site and either incorporate the name or sit comfortably above/below/beside it. The logo should also be recognisable without the name when it's used as a square icon at a size as low as 48x48 px (on Twitter, for example).
A nice-to-have would be if the design, or an element of the design, could also be used as the browser favicon.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
The site is aimed at 'tech savvy' users who understand the difference between HDMI & component inputs and how many of each they need on their new TV. They have a budget in mind and want to narrow down their options based on features and reviews.
I imagine a lot of traffic coming from links pasted into forums or emails as suggestions for people asking for help choosing a new TV.
The site will aim to do one thing and do it well, without unnecessary clutter.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
A design that immediately springs to mind is the Revision3 logo. It's bold, clean and easily recognisable - http://revision3.com/
I like designs that interpret the name visually and/or have "hidden features", such as the FedEx arrow. The perfect logo will be modern, fun and stylish.
Some more examples of the kind of styles I like:
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/60942 - very subtle & clever
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/61075 - I smiled when I spotted the character in the U
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/60278 - clever use of the plane in the initials
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/49536 - bright colours & bold lines
http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/51048 - simple & clever
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
* Preferably no more than 3-4 colours (logo colour scheme will be used as a palette for the rest of the site)
* Clean lines
* Ideally something that could be recognised from a doodle on a piece of paper
Do not want:
* Anything complicated
* Too many colours
