LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

MyCompass is a new digital tool being developed by the Black Dog Institute, it is a digital service for people suffering from mild to moderate depression, stress and/or anxiety. A service that they can access through a desktop computer or their mobile phone, giving them one click private secure access to a suite of clinically tested tools and techniques that help them to monitor and self-manage the symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

The name MyCompass is to represent that feeling we all get of being a bit lost or not knowing which direction we are going in that often comes with Stress, Anxiety, Depression. the tools available on the MyCompass site (mobile and online) will help people find their direction again and feel like they are moving, back on track.

The Black Dog Institute is a not for profit organisation which researches and provides services for mental health across Australia you may wish to check out the Blackdog website http://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/ for further information. However this site is going to be redesigned and the colours and layout should not impact your creative process.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo that will work well on both desktop and mobile and can be incorporated into a variety of visual aids, it can have a strapline or can remain a simple logo. It must be clear what the services are but not too in-your-face as a mental health service, as there is still a lot of stigma attached to people who seek and use mental health services.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Our target audience is varied as mental health does not discriminate in who it strikes. We need the logo to be clear and appeal to both a 18yr old boy from the city and a 56year old woman from a farm we know thats asking a lot!

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

As cliched as this will sound, when I think of great logo and design I think of Apple. They exude style and yet it is minimalistic. Everything about them is so well designed and everything has a function. Nothing is done for aesthetics sake. Im looking for something that is memorable, classical and clear.

The Black Dog Institute branding is Orange and Black however we do not need this to be the colours necessarily particularly as Orange does not work well on a mobile phone. The colours can not be too confronting, they should be helpful, easy, clean, and welcoming.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

The company name to use is MyCompass. It has to be easily recognizable, scalable and work across different mediums (online and offline). It will also need to look good in full colour (4 colour is ok). Please consider logo variations when designing (e.g. horizontal and vertical logo). Ideally, for a mobile, a horizontal logo works better to go across the screen in a banner form.
