LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
HowToDoThings.com is a community driven 'how to' online publishing company. We have over a million unique visitors from around the world who come to our site to... well... learn how to do things. We have articles on almost every topic imaginable, like How to Solve a Rubik's cure, How to Grill Salmon, and How to Make Your Computer Faster.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
After you check out our site, you will see that the whole look and feel seems a little dated. We will soon be completely redesigning out site. And to get that process kicked off, we are looking for a brand new logo (replacing the "!? Thought Bubble" logo at the top left corner of www.howtodothings.com). For now that is it.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
We have about as broad of an online audience as you could possibly have-- since we have topics spanning many many categories, from cooking, to auto mechanics, to finance. So the logo will need to have broad appeal. We want our logo to convey: This is a high quality, trusted, yet fun source to get the information you came for.
Also, we are looking to potentially re-purpose this logo for international expansion. For example, ComoFazerTodo.br is the name of a site that we may launch in Brazil. So ideally, our new logo would be able to translate nicely (but this is not a requirement).
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
We are not looking for a ground breaking, over the top, or attention grabbing logo. We are fairly conservative and though we have some room to play with, we don't want to come close to losing that "trusted source" feeling. Also, we want to keep our general color scheme (blue and white with black lettering), but we be open to different hues of blue.
We do not have any set design in mind. We have submitted projects to Crowd Spring before and have been very please with how the designers' entries expanded our imaginations about what would work best. So I am hoping that we will know what we like when we see it.
A couple of related site's logos that we like include:
www.5min.com (although the not a huge fan of how abstract the light bulb is).
http://www.wonderhowto.com/ (they have a longer domain name like ours, like how they make their name stick out)
http://www.sutree.com/ (I like the idea of a simple picture that represents knowledge, the their site's name, maybe some sort of smart looking animal like an owl?, I also like the question mark symbol)
www.ehow.com (I like their in the box mark)
