What is the exact name you would like in your logo?
Connecticut League of History Organizations
What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
We would like to communicate a historical feel, with modern sensibilities. Our current logo, an oak tree inside the shape of the state of Connecticut, does not convey what we do - which is "to build connections among those organizations and people who preserve and share the stories and objects of our past." We want people to know that we serve (primarily) organizations and people who have an interest in collecting and preserving archives and books, objects of the past, photographs, etc., and sharing what they collect with the public (most of our members are museums and historical societies, located in historic buildings.) We really want to look classy, friendly and approachable.
What logo styles do you like (image + text, image only, text only, etc.)
We need a horizontal logo (to work with our website.) Right now we want text and image, although the text font itself should be able to convey our message. We currently envision a quad design, with the "cross" showing, with a house/building in one of the quadrants, a book in another, an old-fashioned camera in the third, and perhaps a plow, or a flat iron, or a spinning wheel (some kind of iconic historical object) in the fourth. That quad could be enclosed within the shape of the state of Connecticut, and along the east side of the state, our website address "www.clho.org" could be inserted. Then, this entire graphic could somehow be connected to the text "Connecticut League of History Organizations." We like the historic milk paint colors of burgandy/red, blue, green and gold. See http://wiltonhistorical.org for an example of the colors and the style of building and image that we would like to use. The images within the Quad should not be photographs, but more silhouettes.
Do you have any other info or links you want to share?
Our old website is www.clho.org and that features our logo, our current colors, and information about our organization. The template that we will be using for our new website is http://www.templatemonster.com/wordpress..., although we will be changing the foundation to look like a crinkled and old piece of parchment, in an antiqued beige/light brown color. The logo has to match the deep red color on this template. We also need a solid logo and a transparent logo.
