LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
FAR-FLUNG FOTOS is a travel photography company that sells high quality photos from the world's most far-flung places.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
High Level Logo Requirements
I would like the logo to consist of my company's name and tagline ('Indiana Jones style') and, next to these words, I would like a cartoon-style man who is dressed as an 'old school' explorer (safari suit and pith helmet) with a camera around his neck.
Once this logo has been developed, I would like a second file to be created that simply overlays the logo onto an image of an old map that I have provided (see attachment) so that I can decide whether the 'standalone' logo is best or if the old map background adds to its impact.
Detailed Logo Requirements
The company name and tagline are:
Name: FAR-FLUNG FOTOS
Tagline: TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE WORLD'S MOST FAR-FLUNG PLACES
I would like the company name and tagline to adopt the 'Indiana Jones' style (see link):
Specifically, I want the words 'FAR-FLUNG FOTOS' to appear in the same font style with the same slowly-diminishing font size and colouring (orange-yellow-white) as the words 'INDIANA JONES' do in the example. As 'FAR-FLUNG' is one word, the first 'F' should be larger than the letters that follow (as per the 'I' in 'Indiana') and then, as 'FOTOS' is the second word in the name, its 'F' should also be slightly larger than the remaining letters (as per the 'J' in 'Jones'). The words should also angle upwards slightly and consist solely of upper case letters.
The company's tagline of "TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE WORLD'S MOST FAR-FLUNG PLACES" should appear in the same font style and colour (yellow) as the words "KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL". The eight words of the tagline should be spread over two lines. The words "TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY FROM" should appear on the first line and the words "THE WORLD'S MOST FAR-FLUNG PLACES" should appear (centred) on the second line.
The 'old school' explorer should be a white male, reasonably young and, if the pith helmet allows it, brown-haired with either a friendly demeanour or a slightly intense, 'intrepid explorer' expression. He should have a camera around his neck. The safari suit and pith helmet (preferably khaki) should be in a style that is very similar to those worn by Tintin in the following image (including shorts and rolled-up sleeves but perhaps with some normal socks!)
I have chosen the 'old school' explorer look for comedy effect as, to me, it conveys an enthusiastic, well-meaning-but-prone-to-misadventure type of character that complements the company name and tagline's slightly tongue-in-cheek Indiana Jones homage.
Given this 'personality' that I would like him to project, I think a couple of small, quirky details would help (such as a couple of Band-aids forming an 'X' on one knee and/or a few beads of sweat on a slightly rosy face). He should appear on the RHS of the logo next to the company's name and tagline.
As for stance, perhaps the he could be interacting with the company name in some way by, say, reaching up and resting his right hand against the final 'S'. Alternatively, perhaps he could have his hand against his forehead in the classic 'adventurer scanning the horizon' pose.
Perhaps the 'old school' explorer could have a quite realistic, 'Tintin-esque' form or, alternatively, he could be more classically 'cartoon-esque' - like the iconic Mr Four Square, below.
Once this logo has been developed, I would like a second file created that simply overlays the logo onto the old map image that I have provided so I can decide whether it is beneficial or a distraction. Regarding positioning, I would like the first 'F' of 'FAR-FLUNG' to be placed in the water where the ship is (the ship can be deleted/moved) so that the logo occupies approx. the top two-thirds of the image with the 'old school' explorer close to the right-hand edge. His feet should not be any lower than the words 'P.Primiero' (so that, in effect, all of him will be standing on dry land!). The bottom of the map will be unobscured by the logo.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
FAR-FLUNG FOTOS' audience is anyone who appreciates exotic, quality travel photographs that are sensibly priced.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
The company name and tagline should be in the Indiana Jones style, the 'old school' explorer's clothing should closely resemble those worn by Tintin and Mr Four Square could be good inspiration for the explorer's general appearance (links to relevant examples provided earlier)
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
As detailed above, the logo design must have 1) The company name and tagline (Indiana Jones style) and 2) An 'old school' explorer, cartoon-style and positioned to the right of the company name and tagline. An additional file should then be created that uses an old map image as background.
