LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
I've developed a location-based application called 'Word on the Street' for the iPhone which is close to release.
This application allows users to leave notes/reviews wherever they are, tag them, search for nearby notes/reviews and tags, rate them and edit them (in a wiki style - i.e. you can edit other people's entries). They can also share them with others, even if they don't have an iPhone.
The basic idea is that people can share local knowledge not just about restaurants and bars etc, but about anything at all - for example they can leave a note saying that the place they are in has a nice view, or that their favorite movie was made there.
You can read more about this here:
And you can see some early beta test data here:
I've also attached a couple of screenshots
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
- a main icon for the application,
- a variation on the icon which can also work as a logo / banner for the accompanying website, but which is recognisably related to the app icon
- plus a scalable version that I can use and adapt in different sizes for other purposes (e.g. print, other mobile platforms) - ideally in some open file format but PDF as well as the source file could be OK. Open to suggestions here.
Sizes for the main icon needed are 29x29, 57x57 and 150x150, and it needs to be PNG format for this. The 57x57 version is the one that most people will see on the phone itself, so the icon really must work very well at this size.
You can read about the technical requirements for iPhone icons here:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/librar... - I can't use any entry that doesn't conform to these.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Target audience is anybody with an iPhone but as the program is in the creative commons / wikipedia spirit the icon should convey some sense of community as well as active participation and collaboration among people to share local knowledge.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
A metaphor that is used in the program is the idea of a postit note on a map, this could be the basis for an icon (see attached very crude mockup) but it doesn't have to be this (in fact I think the globe idea is a bit of a cliche perhaps).
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
The web version must be a reasonably small file size
