LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

Husk Power is a rural electrification company in India. We use waste biomass (rice husks) to create decentralized power plants in off-grid villages. The company has been around for 2 years and has been the winner of numerous business plan competitions (over $350K awarded), received funding from the Shell Foundation and Indian government, and mostly importantly, powers 50,000 people in 30 villages. We're about to grow up significantly with a large debt financing and VC round ... and now we want to get our branding in order to attract high-quality managers and corporate partners.

As a further intro ... we are a triple-bottom-line company, employer, and investment: we are a for-profit entity that will provide venture-like returns to investors, what we do (providing infrastructure services for the Indian rural poor) is totally socially-focused, we are completely green (our biomass-based plants replace diesel and kerosene fuel that was used by our customers, thus, saving significant CO2). And we expect that we'll be able to scale this model to millions of customers in just a few years.

People around the world believe in our vision ... our firm and management were named 2008 Fast Company Magazine "Social Entrepreneurs of the Year", 2008 PopTech Fellows, presenters at the 2009 Aspen Institute Environmental Forum, winners of multiple global business plan competitions (DFJ, UT Austin Social Innovation competition), 2009 Global Entrepreneurship Forum, and our firm has been profiled in/on Fast Company, The New York Times, The Times of India, Hidustan Times, CNN, Fox Business, and NDTV (India).

You can see our current site and logo at www.huskpowersystems.com. A tagline we sometimes use: "Power to empower."

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo that will be used on our website, promo materials (print), business cards, t-shirts, etc. We also want a color scheme to be used for the same.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Engineers, MBA's in both India and the US. Social investors and traditional investors. The media (we plan to continue getting a lot of it).

We want them to think that we're some sort of combination between hot start-up and intimidating, consistently excellent mid-size energy firm. We would like for potential employees to think we're safe yet exciting. We want partners to think we're worth partnering with. We like industrial, bold, and colors that reflect the same.

We believe that we are igniting our rural communities - we save them money over traditional fossil fuels and give them a tool (we think of electricity as an enabler) to empower themselves. We want people to think that we're revolutionizing rural India ... because we're creating a company that will significantly change the world.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

We like big, bold. But not complicated. Today we have something that is a combo of graphic and text ... it's hard to separate the two, which can create problems. (See attached logos.) But the grey background and bold font choice (HUSK prominently displayed as in the examples) captures some of the boldness we're looking for.

We want clean as heck, memorable as heck.

On this website (http://www.fuelyourcreativity.com/50-kic...) we like:

Zipliner (creative, colorful)

tmiint (cool, calm, professional)

Sparrow (awesome - sense of movement)

Kotton (big name, small rest of words)

We like oldie but goodies ...

Bayer (simple, effective. looks like a pill.)

NIN (simple, hard-emotion, black and white)

IronPort {acquired by Cisco - have to dig for logo ... attached} (cool combination of what they do and bold corporate name)

If more questions on look and feel, please feel free to ask.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

"Husk Power" needs to be prominently displayed. "Systems" isn't as important but could be integrated if something interesting comes along. We like colors like gunmetal grey and mid-range green, but can be persuaded to change our tune.
