LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Horizons Youth Services is an organization that provides programming and training for youth, including innovative youth leadership training programs. We offer twice a year Student Government Association Leadership Conferences for students from regional Job Corps centers. These conferences focus on students developing leadership, public speaking and organizational skills that will help them be effective leaders at their centers and will aid them in their future careers. HYS also has contracts with the federal Department of Labor to operate five Job Corps Centers three in Kentucky, one in Texas and one in California. HYS is working closely with the Dallas Region of Job Corps to put on the Student Leadership Conference Oct. 19-22 in Utah.
Job Corps is a federally funded educational and job training program for students who are economically disadvantaged and who typically have not done well in the traditional educational system or who need additional training/education to move into the job market. Job Corps centers are residential facilities based on the college campus model, where students take academic courses to complete their high school diploma and/or get their GED, and enroll in career technical training programs that provide them with the skills they need to enter the competitive job market.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
Wed like a logo that reflects the theme of student leadership to create a positive normative culture. Positive Normative Culture is a program within Job Corps that establishes acceptable norms of behavior on the Job Corps Centers, and promotes that culture through student mentoring, staff mentoring, an emphasis on accountability and personal responsibility, modeling appropriate behavior and monitoring behavior and quickly addressing problems. This same philosophy of establishing and maintaining a positive normative culture runs through all programming, training and operational aspects of HYS.
**While this logo will be used at the conference, we want a logo that is generic enough to be used for many different programs and services that reflect the theme of Student Leadership and positive role modeling.**
Specifics for the Logo: We want some graphic representation of mountains in the logo since the conference will be held in Utah; additionally HYS is located in the mountains of Virginia. The logo should include the theme, either visually or verbally or both, of Students Leading Changing. Other ideas that could be represented can include the idea of working together to create a positive learning, working environment or Building a Positive Environment; Positive Culture, Enhanced Productivity, etc. The logo should be a simple artwork that will work well in both color and B&W. The logo should be created in color.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our primary target audience is participants attending the JC Student Leadership Conference in Utah. The logo will be used on artwork, programs, posters, etc. for this conference. However, because of its simple, non-specific nature, we want to use this logo for other events or programs, such as leadership conferences, special programs at our Job Corps Centers, and in consulting work that Horizons Youth Services as well as Horizons Consulting and the Outdoor Learning Center at Horizons, two other subsidiaries of our parent company Endless Horizons, offer.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
We are open to any color, font, style, or design ideas, as long as the design is simple, easily reproduced and will work in both color and black and white. Some artistic representation of leadership would be good.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
The logo must include some artistic representation of mountains and the words Students Leading Change. It must be in color, preferrably two color for ease in reproduction.
