Creative Brief

Who are you?

Floating Robes is the outlet for my writing. I write short horror fiction and dark fantasy, with a bit of humour.

Previously I've been selling stories to magazines and books through the internet. In the future I would like to start a publishing house with its focus on new media (e-books and audiobooks).

What do you need?

I need a logo that combines the classic elements of horror (mystery, ghosts, vampires, etc) with a fresh, new look.

My stories are heavily influenced by the classic elements of British horror (ghosts, werewolves, haunted mansions, etc.)

Since tongue-in-cheek humour is always a very important part of my stories, I'd like to see this reflected as well.

I'd like to see the horror reflected more than the writing (e.q. a ghost rather than a pen).

Use of depth is preferred.

Colours are completely open, although pink candystripes and polka dots are pretty much forbidden.

Who Is Your Audience?

They read entertaining books rather than literature, enjoy blockbusters rather than intellectual films, have cats rather than dogs. They are knowledgeable about current events, history and popular science, are grounded and skeptical. And of course, they like horror and a good laugh.

We Like These Examples

Logo of Baen Books, one of my favorites. Easy to be distinguished and simple enough to be on the side of a book.

I like the lack of colours and still being able to make a strong, ingenious logo.

How can I leave this out? It's an origami bat!

Not a logo, but this is pretty much the sort of dark humour I'm looking for.

My site.

We Absolutely Must Have

Everything is open. The name will be next to the logo, so it does not need to be included.
