LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
The Urban Memory Project (UMP) is a New York City-based not-for-profit which provides high-school students and teachers an opportunity to explore the vital relationship between personal history and the history of their city. Through research, photography, and oral history, participants analyze and document social and economic developments in their communities. It is the Urban Memory Projects goal to cultivate new generations of informed and civically-engaged citizens who see themselves as part of their neighborhood's and city's unfolding story.
We operate in New York City, but can see expanding to other Cities in the future. We currently focus our work in high schools, but can see expanding to other grade levels and into adult education eventually as well.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We have a pre-existing logo CONCEPT, but have not been satisfied with the way this concept has been executed. We are close, but not quite there.
We would like a completed logo design and suggested colors for use.
We'll be using the logo on all internal and external communications as well as collateral materials, etc, but we'll deal with the application on these elements.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
School Practitioners (Students and Teachers) who might be interested in the Urban Memory Project..
Foundational Donors who might be interested in supporting the Urban Memory Project.
Like-minded public people who are interested in the kinds of work we do and want to learn more about it.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
No favorites spring to mind.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Our concept is this:
The idea is that you interact with the city most intimately when you are walking. Think of it - when you are in a plane at 30,000 feet, you only see an abstraction of the city - you see the whole of it, but none of the ground-level detail. In car, you are right there on the street, but you are still in a bubble-- isolated from the experience by the shell you are riding in, as well as the speed at which you are moving. On a bicycle, a little less so, but you are still moving at pace. But walking... walking is where you really can get to know your surroundings if you are looking you are available for all the experiences that your surroundings have to offer. So what does this mean for imagery?
It means that we require that a shoe print feature prominently in our solution. Our idea is the mark of a shoe print, where the sole of the shoe integrates artifacts of a city. We would like to see it a little distressed as well. Think of it this way: What we want to see in the end, is the shoeprint that looks like a shoeprint that was designed to convey what we are about (with simple elements that convey urbanity) and then was worn while walking 100 miles around New York City.
We want this done with a sans-serif font , but NOT Gotham, Helvetica or any Helvetica or Gotham derivites (Arial, Avenir, etc). We like DIN (Mittle), but it's inclusion is not required.
Final solution needs to work in 1 color and include our full name. DO NOT USE THE ACRONYM "UMP". We are not affiliated with baseball officials, and don't want to confuse anyone. :)
