LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

In Fall 2009, we will open a corn maze, pumpkin patch and petting farm in Northwest North Dakota. Our current name is Stony Acres Farm, but we're not wedded to that name and would certainly consider a cooler name! This may happen at a later date, though.

Our farm will offer fundraising opportunities to community groups (church youth groups, 4-H, scouts, etc.) who will staff the farm attractions in exchange for a donation to their group.

We have the usual group of farm animals: miniature horses, donkeys, pot-bellied pigs, non-traditional sheep, llamas, rabbits, dairy steers (boys, no milk!) goats and roosters. We may have more when we open.

Our season will be mid-September to Halloween only. We will offer a Haunted Hay Maze one weekend evening each week.

Thank you in advance for your hard work and ideas! I can't wait to see them and I know I'll have a very hard time choosing just one! Although we are very cash poor at the moment, it is highly likely we will have additional work for the farm in the future. For example, signage for each attraction, animal in the farm, directional signs, etc.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need an upbeat, fun logo/look/design that can be used on all our print materials, signs, t-shirts, website, advertisements, etc. Somehow, it would be great if we could incorporate the charitable giving aspect of our farm into our look/logo. That may not be possible and is only a thought.

It's also possible we may need variations on the logo - for example one for families, another emphasizing the haunted maze.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Our primary target audience is families with younger children. Our secondary audiences are coordinators of school field trips and community groups like scouts. We also would like to attract grandparents and teens.

The other, critical market is the groups we'd like to fundraise for us.

I want people to think of safe, wholesome, old-fashioned family fun. I want our guests to make visiting our farm an annual event. I also want them to see us as a valuable addition to the community.

Many,. if not all, our guests will have parents or grandparents who farmed, so I'd like them to think of our farm as a fun place where the kids can connect with their heritage in an engaging, interesting, fun-filled way.

I want to create memories for families and groups. I want their visit to the farm to be so cool, they want to come back again and again!

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

We like the old-fashioned, retro look of the 40's and 50's - that kind of clean-cut, wholesome image, but that is not an absolute. I like clean designs that are bold and make an instant statement. There should be no doubt as to who we are and what we do.

I also like "old-fashioned" - the country look with handpainted signs on wood boards...the country magazine look...bordering on primitive.

I also love the kind of labels that went on fruit crates - the jelly-jar kind of look.

I'm also very fond of Mary Englebrite, as long as it's not too cutesy.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

A distinctive and descriptive look that screams family fun in a wholesome atmosphere.

I don't want anything too avantgarde, too urban, too cutesy or not obvious. Nothing that patronizes children like talking cartoon animals, animals in clothes, that kind of thing.

I'd be okay with one or two animals being the "spokes-beast" for our farm, but we need to attract people who are thinking why should they pay to go to this place when they could go home to the farm and pet the pig for free!

I think the corn maze will be the biggest attraction, because there are none for 200 miles!!!

I'd like people to see the logo and know instantly who we are, what we do ad that we're a must-visit each fall.
