LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC) is a not for profit organisation which has recently made the transition from aspiration to a constituted community interest company (CIC). A c.i.c. is a company founded for community benefit, not for private gain, and falls between a charity and a profit-making company.
ALERC represents the interests of Local Records Centres and their employees in the UK. Local Records Centres are not-for profit organisations working for the public benefit by collecting, collating and disseminating information on Biodiversity and (optionally) geodiversity. An LRC will provide information to inform planning applications & decision making at a local and regional level, and will input to the production of national datasets.
The Directors & members of the association all work for (or have an active interest in) a Local Records Centre. Local Records Centres and their employees generally do what they do because of an interest in the conservation of and protection of the wildlife, valuable habitats and geodiversity of the UK and beyond.
The work of LRCs is split between working with people amateur naturalists, volunteers, stakeholders and funders; and the technical work of data management & dissemination inputting to and managing databases, adding data to computerised mapping (GIS) and managing that data, linking information to websites.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We are after a smart, simple, brand-new logo which is clean clear and concise. It does not necessarily have to be linked to any particular plant or animal; indeed a clean abstract design may well be preferable.
We need two versions of the logo. We need a stand-alone logo and additionally the logo with the name of the company incorporated into it, as text running beneath or out from the logo image.
The logo will be used in the following (in rough order of frequency of use!)
On our website, and on other organisations websites as a smaller image.
In overhead projections (usually powerpoint)
On printed paper leaflets, letterhead
On downloaded materials, such as pdf documents.
In printed publications such as newsletters & periodicals
On forums e.g. as Avatars or as part of a post.
The current logo is based on a nautilus shell, you can see it by going to http://www.alerc.org.uk. Wed like to use the same colour scheme so we dont have to redesign everything, we run the association on a voluntary basis and cant afford the time to do this.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our target audience will be current and potential funders, stakeholders and users of Local Records Centres which would include government departments & bodies (local/regional/national), ecological consultancies, data suppliers & the general public.
The image we want to portray is of a stable and secure professional body, that is knowledgeable on all matters it is involved in, that can be trusted by the organisations it represents, that cares about green issues and particularly biodiversity & geodiversity issues and is high-tech enough to deal with modern data management and dissemination systems.
WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:
http://www.nbn.org.uk/ We like the logo for its simple design that is not overtly linked with a particular taxonomic group.
http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ A simple effective logo.
One of our members has put together a colour palette and we'd like to see the colours used either contained in this scheme or complimenting it http://colorschemedesigner.com/#3b41ThWs...
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:
We DO NOT want to see cartoon figures or a funny design. Were after a simple professional logo.
