LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
The Duke Microfinance Leadership Initiative (DMLI) is a joint graduate-undergraduate group at Duke University dedicated to promoting microfinance and other sustainable development models in the United States and abroad. We have active programs in Durham and research/ capacity-building investment partnerships with microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Uganda and northern India.
We are under Duke University's 501c3 nonprofit status. We are growing rapidly and we want to polish our image. The logo is the first step.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We would like two logos, one graphic and suitable for powerpoints, banners, websites, etc. and a simpler version suitable for use in headers on documents that is easily recognizable and legible at a small size.
We have a slogan: "Theory into Practice. Action into Impact." We are open to improvements on this slogan, but this is probably the message we want to go with. The idea is that we harness university students and academic resources to create opportunities for hands-on experiences and to effect real change in the world.
You will find our current graphic logo uploaded. We are open to completely new approaches to this logo. We like the idea of highlighting North Carolina (where Duke is), Uganda and Northern India, but this might not be possible given the geography of the globe. We don't want to emphasize South America right now; we have no operations there and it's misleading.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Students (grad and undergrad), nonprofits who work with us, international microfinance providers, professors, and donors. We want to present a polished and professional image to everyone who comes to a presentation, reads our materials or googles us.
WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:
Accion has a good example of a text logo.
We like FINCA's graphic logo. Catchy and simple, with the usual cliche of growth or progress.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:
An uplifting logo that conveys the themes of global interconnectedness, growth, or a similarly appropriate development theme.
The name DMLI must appear in both. If you can fit "Duke Microfinance Leadership Initiative" without making it unwieldy that's great; it should be in the large logo since there will be more space. Our slogan, "Theory into Practice. Action into Impact." should be in the larger logo; put in in the smaller one if you can. Feel free to adapt the slogan if you have a better idea.
We don't have a fixed color scheme, but the logos must work in both color and black and white.
