Creative Brief

Who are you?

Democracia Interactiva is the new Mexico office of Democracy in Action (democracyinaction.org), an international non-profit which specializes in providing online organizing software to other non-profits.

Our mission is to aid other progressive organizations in their advocacy efforts: organizing volunteers, having people sign petitions and letters to political officials, attending events, and donating money... all through email marketing and social media.

Our goal in Mexico is to modernize civil society organizations there, so that they can become a stronger and more representative voice working towards democracy, social justice, human rights, and the environment.

What do you need?

We need a logo for different uses, both for web and print.

However, our most urgent need is for our website which is scheduled to go live in a couple of weeks (1st week of July). Democracia Interactiva's website is a Spanish version of the existing Democracy in Action's website (http://democracyinaction.org/) but replacing the "Democracy in Action" logo for the new one we are requesting.

We would like the logo to be clean, modern, and young, yet professional, reflecting the fact that we modernize political activism by organizing it online. We also would like it to match the overall theme of the already existing website.

Considering that we are a non-profit - an organization with a mission, and not a commercial enterprise selling a product - we would like to have a logo with our name spelled out, so more focus on typography and less on images/icons. However, we are flexible and open to creative suggestions.

Ultimately, we would like to design stationary (letterhead, envelope, business card) and a web header using this logo, so we would like to use the same designer for all of this. However, given our rush to go live in two weeks, our current priority is just the logo for the website. We could pay an additional fee to finish the rest of the stuff in the coming month.

Who Is Your Audience?

Our audience can be considered on two levels:

Our first target, as clients, are small and middle-sized non-profits who wish to modernize their political advocacy efforts by embracing technology.

The second level are their members or potential sympathizers, who are likely to be young, tech-savvy, middle class individuals.

In order to build our own brand through social media and a political blog, we would like our logo and overall image to convey a sense of political independence, transparency, seriousness, and trustworthiness.


We Like These Examples

I like the logo for "Democracy in Action," our parent company, because it is clean, modern, looks professional, and has the full name of the organization spelled out. I like two-color combinations. Also, I like many of the ones in the following link (http://bit.ly/xIsB0), especially Bread for the World, Muslim Aid, Water Aid, Africa Now, and Solve Poverty. Again, we are open for all your creative designs!

We Absolutely Must Have

As mentioned above, we would like the full spelling of our organization to appear in the logo (although we are still open for other creative suggestions). The name is "Democracia Interactiva". As for colors, we are quite flexible, but we would like to blend well with the colors of http://salsalabs.com.
