About the Library of the Great Lakes:
Contained within the immensity, complexity, and beauty of the Great Lakes are stories of shifting tectonic plates, volcanoes, and glaciers; of hunters, farmers, explorers, fur-traders, miners, and loggers; of great ships and bustling cities and industries that changed the world; of indigenous peoples and immigrants; of countless lives altered, enriched, and lost.
The Great Lakes region – eight U.S. states and two Canadian provinces - is the home to innovation, research, technology, science, industry, architecture, poetry, theater, fresh water studies, lake effect snow, sustainable agriculture, fisheries, wilderness and wildness.
One fifth of Earth’s fresh surface water is contained in the Great Lakes. Lakes Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior are so big they create their own weather.
It is time they had their own Library.
The mission of The Library of the Great Lakes is to inspire and support exploration of the science, history, literature, arts, and cultures of the Great Lakes region.
We are a new organization and we’d like our logo to help brand and launch us out into the community at large.
Our audience is universal – for example: the general public, students, scientists, visitors, researchers, teachers, children, parents, older adults, and anyone in between, with a variety of demographic and economic backgrounds, but whom all have a love of, or desire to learn more about, the Great Lakes region and the arts, cultures and sciences that spring from it.

Additional thoughts on color, etc.: We'd like the logo to evoke thoughts of water and earth, the natural world. It should feel timeless and fluid. We're open to one- or two-color logos. If only one, we'd love blue.
File formats: We'd like both an AI file, as well as a hi-res jpg or png file, since we don't have Illustrator and will need a logo we can see and drop into materials ourselves, too.
