LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Read "about us" at www.centerpointcorp.com , but don't bother with the blog--it won't work.
We are in serious need of a refresh/redesign of our corporate website, and that is currently underway (barely). So, it's a great time to incorporate a new logo.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
For starters, just a "fresher" new logo design.
The name of our company is long, and this creates unique challenges for logo design.
The new logo will be used on our upcoming new website, invoicing, email signature, etc.. Most use of the logo will be electronic, with the exception of some print applications (stationery, business cards, etc.)
We currently don't use a tagline per se, though we may consider it if a design seems to work well with a tagline.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
The educational assessment marketplace (student testing)---test publishers, test developers, state (or international) departments of education, researchers, nonprofit education groups needing unique back-end services (often with a web-based component) and a high level of customization.
Technically, we're a consultancy. Usually, our customers (someone belonging to one of the above) aren't really sure where to begin with a particular project, and we find a way to give them what they need at reasonable costs. We're not IBM; we solve relatively small-ish problems, and thus far our business has been built exclusively via word-of-mouth. Our customers want professional solutions to their problems, period. We provide that where we can, and we're upfront when we can't. What we hear a lot is that we provide a level of professionalism that even the big, huge, well-established companies would be hard-pressed to provide. They describe us as "refreshing" and "excellent to work with" and it would be great if our logo could somehow project these qualities.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Hard to say, but here's the general idea:
I also like FedEx, BlackBerry, Apple, CentralDesktop,
Obviously, these companies spend millions of dollars on their logos... so it's offered as a point of comparison only. When you compare our existing logo to these classics, you can see we probably need a fresher design.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Our color of choice, if it matters, is green.
We do not want ORNATE designs or anything that conjures a very casual, overly playful, or super-cute image. "Stylish" would preferrable to "fun", for example.
One problem with our existing logo is that it cannot be placed on anything other than a white background without sacrificing it's intended "message": quality, stability, and to some degree, precision/innovation. These were the intended attributes of the logo back then (you be the judge as to how successful it was).
New logo would hopefully conjure the following: quality, innovation, simplicity, stability, freshness.
Some of those terms may seem contradictory, we realize that. This is not our area of expertise. But that's why we are crowdsourcing the project--to tap into design minds much more capable than our own!
