LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
The Happy Shop is a pre 50's inspired Burlesque show with live jazz. We perform once a month at the Cinegrill.
The Cinegrill , a legendary supper club, opened in Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel the in the early 30's, when jazz was the latest rage. It hosted top entertainers in the 1940's, and was a major celebrity hangout. Legendary Broadway musical star Mary Martin made her debut at the Cinegrill earning only $35 a week. F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and Salvador Dali were among the creative customers who gathered at the Cinegrill to talk shop. Marilyn Monroe was a frequent patron, preferring a dark corner booth.
Our show replicates the vibe of the 1920's through 1940's, so think about that stylistically while designing.
The night includes 2 live jazz sets in addition to the burlesque show. The burlesque show includes 6 dancers, 3 torch singers and a vaudeville style comedy skit. The burlesque is vintage style, so the girls all have gimmicks and stories to their dances.
The show is Tie-required and attracts a really cool, chill crowd. The show is always a exciting, fun and sexy time.
For inspiration I included a bunch of pics that are the style/vibe I want in the winning logo.
Here is a link to our site which has our trailer on it and also pics from the show, so you know exactly what our show entails... I HIGHLY recommend looking at the pictures to get a sense of our style...
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
Our show replicates the vibe of the 1920's through 1940's, so think about that stylistically while designing our logo. I need a total vintage feel that someone could look at and know exactly the type of night they are going to have. I prefer to have a girl in the logo, but am open to anything. If you use a girl, I want her to reflect an innocent sexy pinup vibe, much like the vintage Gil Elvgren pin up pics, but styled so you know she's a burlesque dancer. I need music to be represented as well. Jazz is a huge part of the night.
The name must be in the logo. "The Happy Shop" I wouldn't mind if "Old School Burlesque with Live Jazz" was in the logo as well, but not necessary.
The logo will be used on all marketing materials including, business cards, stationary, press materials, website designing, show posters, etc.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our audience consists of mid twenties-mid forties (although we have had older) fun, adventurous people who like to get dressed up and see a great show. They don't take themselves too seriously and enjoy great cocktails, some provocative fun and great music. I want them to think that this is a show that is super fun and they don't want to miss it!
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
LOVE Gil Elvgren, Edward Runci, Harry Ekman, Al Buell, etc. So think about this style when designing. For reference, check this site out:
I found some random pics that are the type of style/vibe i like as well... I attached them.
I designed the past 5 show posters with like a mauve-purple and yellow.. please take a look. I like these colors but I am TOTALLY OPEN to a new color scheme. I do however, want the feel to be sexy.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
NO MODERN LOOKS! This is total vintage! NO slutty looking girls. Innocent/coy pinup vibe needed.
