What is the exact name you would like in your logo?
What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?
Sonoma Sprints is an inaugural amateur road race being held by the San Francisco Region of the SCCA at Sears Point Raceway AKA Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. Our racing, and specifically this event, should convey the following:
* Prestige - this is not an average race but a major event on the annual amateur calendar
* Excellence - this is where the best come to race resulting in big, competitive, exciting fields
* Professional - from the facility to the organizers to the safety crews, this is a first-class event
What logo styles do you like (image + text, image only, text only, etc.)
The logo will be used on print like flyers, stickers, pins and t-shirts as well as online. It's important that the logo be clean and easily recognizable. Lots of tiny detail will probably not work at small print sizes. While we are open to detail, the logo needs to also work when the fidelity is lower.

We hope to build our event into something like the June Sprints which have been held near Chicago for the last 50+ years continually: http://www.junesprints.com There are other famous amateur races like the SCCA Runoffs: http://www.scca.com/events/index.cfm?eid...
While we have a huge range in cars from old to new and formula to sedan, it probably makes more sense to not include a specific car in the logo. Something abstract would be OK, but we don't want to tie the logo to a specific point in time. Mazda Miatas are a very popular class right now but putting a miata in there would date the logo in just a few years. It's important that this look modern but timeless. As ever-evolving as motorsports may be, it has a huge tie to its history and legacy so we want to make both the bleeding edge tuners of today feel comfortable along with our gray-hair vintage formula car racers.
Be cautious of cliche racing items like checkered flags, sweeping corners, etc. It's not to say you can't use this, just be careful about overdoing it. A professional organization and event would not have a cliche design representing them.

Although we are part of the SCCA (sports car club of america) and this event will be sanctioned by the club, the logo and event should stand on its own.
Our previous projects on Crowdspring all have "Amazing!" participation levels. The person managing this contest has formerly worked in a design firm and, while not a designer himself, has a good understanding of design principles and priorities and will provide feedback. Thanks, we look forward to your submissions!
