Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

What is the exact name you would like in your logo?

Better Food. Better Value.

What is your industry?

Food and Beverage

What are the top 3 things you would like to communicate through your logo?

1. Exactly what the words say: Better Food. Better Value.
2. Vintage/retro look: particularly want to evoke a 1930s or 1940s nostalgia.
3. Our restaurant name is Country Cookin. This logo can work on its own or with our main logo (file attached). As you hear "country," please think americana, wholesome, grandma's kitchen, front porch rockers, etc... not western, cowboy, etc. This logo is to be a graphic representation of our new campaign/slogan which is Better Food. Better Value.

What logo styles do you like (image + text, image only, text only, etc.)

Open to image and text or text only options.

Do you have any other info or links you want to share?

Our current corporate colors are a brick red and navy blue... based on Pantone 7427 and 648. Using these is not required.

Our restaurant interiors feature local sepia vintage photography and this campaign needs to work well with that concept.

The ideal winning logo would have one basic design/look but three layouts: square/circle, wide horizontal, or tall vertical to be able to fit in different spaces. Doing a version that uses the acronym only (BFBV) is optional but appreciated. None of this is required to be the winning design, but if a design does provide these flexibility of uses that will be taken into consideration as we pick the winner.

This is the second time we have used Crowdspring for a design project and we were thrilled with our results last time. I can't wait to see what the talented designers on this site dream up for us this time! THANK YOU in advance for your efforts for us!

Brief updates

A little more info about us:
We are a sit down, fairly casual restaurant. We offer made-to-order entrees from a wide menu with an emphasis on country classics and all American favorites. Every entree comes with our all-you-can-eat Signature Endless Salads & Sides. This is a huge salad bar with cold salads, hot vegetables (including mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, made from scratch pinto beans, and other starches in addition to traditional cooked veggies), yeast rolls and corn muffins, two soups of the day, and a large dessert selection. This is all free. Our meals, including the entree, a baked potato/baked sweet potato/skin-on fries/or onion rings, and the endless sides average about $9 per person.

We serve a wide range of people but our two target demographics are young families and senior citizens. In both cases, the price point and immediate eating after seating with the salad bar are big draws.

Kids' meals are free on Monday nights and age 6 and under eat free from the salad bar (no meat, but you can easily make a meal) free every day. Seniors get free drinks on Wednesdays.

We also serve an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet daily in most locations. On weekends, we serve a Premium Breakfast that adds made to order omelets, flavored pancakes (chocolate chip, blueberry, etc), breakfast casserole, and oatmeal to the buffet. That is just $6.99.

Hopefully this information about our business is helpful to you as you brainstorm your design. THANKS again for your time and creativity!

You are fabulous! Such creativity and so many ideas. Thank you! It's great fun seeing new entries each time I log on and watching some of you continue to develop your ideas. I am once again overwhelmed by the level of talent on this site.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Hello designers,

Thank you again for your continued efforts and creativity on our behalf. I do appreciate it!

Some of you have wondered about the lack of 5* ratings. I wanted to let you know a little more about our selection process.

I am the marketing director and in charge of brand and communications. I am running the contest and doing the initial screening/scoring of entries.

The final selection of a winner or winners is made by a panel of three: myself, our company president, and our company vice president. I will be meeting with the two of them on Thursday morning. Although the contest is still open at that point, we will be looking at the strongest designs submitted by that time.

I will be providing additional feedback after the meeting to any designs where our discussion leads to helpful commentary to share with you, the designer. I may also rescore designs at that time based on how the panel feels about entries. A 5* received at that time will indicate that all three of us felt the design had the potential to be the winner. Receiving 5* doesn't promise a win, nor does not getting one guarantee not winning, but that will be our criteria for initial scores of 5*.

Hello designers,

I want to say a huge THANK YOU once again to everyone for the entries we have received to date. I've said it before (and I'm sure I'll say it again)... the talent level on crowdSPRING is exceptional.

I have been very pleased with the overall level of sophistication and good design in the entries overall. We are most blessed that the choice won't be an easy one, and that even the designs we have now ruled out could have worked had the contest not been as competitive as it is.

I met with my boss (our company president) and our VP. We reviewed all the entries, and like me, they were pleased with both the quality and the variety. We have narrowed the entries received so far to four finalists.

Some of our finalists have variations on the same theme, but there are four basic finalist designs (whether it was expressed in one entry or in several showing different layouts and color palettes).

I will now be going through and rescoring all entries based on this morning's meeting. Finalists will be rescored with a 3* or 4* based on how much work still needs to be done. Individual feedback will be given on those designs too.

Any designs we have ruled out at this time will be marked "no thanks." Again, I want to emphasis that there truly were no bad designs and I really appreciate the effort each of you spent on our behalf.

The contest is still open for another 6-7 days and we will continue to happily accept new entries during that time. If you have a new idea to explore, any of you are most welcome to submit new entries. However, I feel strongly about not wasting your time, so if an entry has been marked "no thanks," we feel the concept isn't right for us and tweaking it is unlikely to make a difference.

Just as I have done with yours, I will do an initial scoring and feedback on new entries received between now and the close of the contest. We'll do a second review by panel and choose the final finalists. We have decided to hold 5* ratings until the last few days of the contest so 5* ratings can indicate that we feel the design has reached its full potential and could really work for our brand.

THANK YOU for your time, your talent, and your dedication to your craft. We are very excited by the possibilities this contest represents for us!

Good afternoon designers,

Again, many thanks for your creativity and ideas! This is a very competitive contest, which is great for us! :)

As I said in the original creative brief, our current corporate colors are an all-American brick red and navy (7427 and 648). Our interiors in the most recently renovated restaurants and our new builds are not those colors (our interior designer doesn't believe in blue for restaurant interiors).

The interiors have a more neutral palette. I thought it might be helpful to have pantone references for those colors too. We've not needed them since implementing the new interior look about a year ago, but I compared PMS chips to the walls and here's what I've got so far:

Chocolate Brown: PMS 476

Tan: PMS 4865. *That is the closest pantone to the walls, though it is not an exact match. However, the 4 color blend on that pantone is too peach. A closer 4 color blend is C2 M13 Y18 K6.

Pumpkin/Cinnamon Color (used sparingly as a pop of color in a few spots): No perfect match to this one, but PMS 7522, 7523, and 7524 are in the right neighborhood.

I'm still working on getting a match for the olive. It's used on the ceiling in the restaurant nearest me, so hard to get close enough to be sure! I've asked the interior designer for paint chips/paint brand and names, so waiting on that information. When I get a best ink match for that paint, I'll update again.

Many thanks for your continued interest and ideas!

Wow! You've all been busy while I was away. Thanks for the additional entries. I'll score and do feedback for all the new ones tomorrow. I apologize for the delay!

Hi Creatives,

Unfortunately, I have to run out and can't be on here solid doing instant scoring and feedback for the last few hours of the contest as I would prefer.

I should be back just before the contest ends. If there have been enough new entries that extending the contest by a short period of time would make for a more fair experience for all because what I see could be impacted by feedback, I will do a short extension. My preference is for the contest to end today, though, as I will see one of the decision makers tomorrow and we can begin the selection process.

Thanks for your continued inspiration, creativity, and time. On behalf of myself and our entire team at Country Cookin, THANK YOU!

I am very happy with the entries received and we do have it narrowed to finalists but the project closed before I could rescore to show top leaders. Also, for two of the leaders, I asked for a resubmission of entries developed over time as one new entry. The reason for this is that it is easier to use the crowdSPRING focus group tool if related looks are in one entry.

I am reopening the contest to provide time in case those designers had not yet seen the requests and to allow them to honor the request, should they choose.

Once we get the two group entries we hope to receive (where work has been already submitted as individual entries), we will consider the contest closed and move to making a final decision.

Once again, thank you to all who submitted work for consideration. We saw a wide variety of ideas and each of you helped us better understand exactly what we need. I appreciate your time, your committment to your craft, and your professionalism. Best wishes to all of you for a successful future.

Thanks again,
