LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology is a community of about 12,000 eye and vision researchers (scientists and ophthalmologists) from 80 countries; we are the largest and most respected vision research organization in the world. Our aim is to help cure and prevent blindness by encouraging and assisting research, training, publication and knowledge-sharing in vision and ophthalmology.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
An icon/symbol-based logo for our 2011 annual meeting. The meeting title is:
Visionary Genomics.
Here is the meeting description:
"Advances in genome sciences and related technologies are revolutionizing biology and medicine. We are now able to identify genetic variations associated with vision diseases. Bioinformatics tools are helping us decipher the complexities of gene regulation, and we are learning more about how human cells and the microbiome interact. This fast-paced advancements will provide ever more opportunities for discovery.
"Eye and vision researchers will gather at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology to explore how genome technology is leading to new understandings of vision health, disease and treatment."
The word "Visionary" in the title is a play on words: This is a meeting about cutting-edge eye and vision research, and it is also means that genome discoveries are only limited by scientists' foresight and imagination.
VERY IMPORTANT: Please do a Google image search for "oligonucleotide microarray." Some of the image results will look like the old LiteBrite toy. That is a microarray. You will also see (2nd page of results) charts made up of red and green bars. This is a heat map. We would like the logo to be inspired by these images. WE DO NOT WANT DOUBLE HELIXES.
Text included in logo: "ARVO 2011" amd "Visionary Genomics"
The logo can use up to three colors but it must also work well in black or white. Good colors: oranges, blues, lighter greens, calm purples, darker reds as a secondary color only. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE AN EYE.
Does not need to tie in with our main logo. See www.arvo.org/am for this year's meeting logo.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Researchers/scientists, ophthalmologists, neuroscientists, optometrists, general science community
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:
Text included in logo: "ARVO 2011" amd "Visionary Genomics"
strong
simple
instantly identifiable
useable in a variety of formats (Web site, e-mail header, various print publications, signage)
not necessarily an eye
