Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

NA - It is a valentine's gift

What do you do?

Not applicable - this is a gift for my valentine

What is the exact name you would like in your logo?

Devil Kitten (or DK if it looks better)

You'll receive designs for biz cards, letterhead and envelopes.

Yes, apart from identification as Devil Kitten, no other information will be necessary on the business cards, letterhead or envelope.

What is your industry?

Describe the target audience for your logo and stationery

The target audience is one person - my valentine. I will try to provide guidance for the first few days of things I think she will like, but she will start providing guidance to creatives on Wednesday the 19th. She will be the sole judge and decider of the winning entry. If she absolutely, positively loves two designs, we might award a second prize.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your logo and stationery?

Mischevious (evil, but, y'know fun evil, not evil evil)

What logo and stationery styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?

I think she will probably be drawn to a cute, cartoony image of a devil kitten. She won't be interested in sexy/lewd images. The image should be classy, not something you'd see on the side of a van in the 70s. I am sure attention to detail: monograms (DK), bullets (claw marks? paws?), calligraphy and other stationery elements will complete the look. Artistic license welcome, have fun with this - how often do you get to design a business card for a devil kitten?

What colors do you want to see in your logo and stationery?

Black is really safe and will probably be your best bet, most likely preferred to red which may be a bit too literal. Then again a little color never killed the devil kitten - a hint of purple or a touch of fire somewhere? You are the creative.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo and stationery?

While an illustration/cartoon devil kitten is welcome, I suspect that a lot of color will not be welcome, please don't submit four color comics.

What adjectives should best describe your logo and stationery?

Sharp, clean, possibly of an era or genre (art deco (Streamline modern?), art nouveau?, 20s, Paris), maybe a touch of punk or alt, but not goth! Veer more toward post-modern, away from anime. Think classical, blues or jazz, rather than pop or disco.

Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?

Mostly print, would be great if there was a good electronic version for an email sig in case she decides to do that. I think she'll mostly just have fun handing out business cards and writing letters that say Devil Kitten on them.

Brief updates

Just to clarify - there shouldn't be any love/valentine's theme in the actual logo/stationery - it is just a Valentine's gift. The logo and stationery should be useful year round.

Thanks for all the entries so far. So far they've been rather basic, so I am providing comments as if they are a very first rough draft/concept. We are both professionals and so have expectations about what a professional logo + letterhead + business card would look like and I am looking forward to seeing what the design looks like when it has been put in that format.

I don't think you need to get too cartoony or literal with this design, more important that it looks like a polished logo - the winner could be just a head/face of a Devil Kitten, just a tail or just scratch marks, there are a number of ways you could go here. There is clearly some talent being devoted to this, I think the winning design will likely be someone that has applied that talent to creating a bit of a brand or logo to the concept so that it appears a whole concept.

Thanks for the newer entries, we're moving much more in the direction I think the recipient will like.

Note that I am traveling and scoring/feedback doesn't work on an iPad, so more feedback tomorrow.

I am assuring the prize now based on the latest work, though, obviously, they could still all be developed further.

Also, the judge, Devil Kitten herself, will be seeing these for the first time tomorrow and providing feedback, so please submit your latest work for feedback on Wednesday.
