LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

I have just shifted to Australia and aim to be Sydneys BIGGEST, funkiest, coolest cheerleader via my website at sydneynewbie.com (launching in late June). The site is an online survival guide aimed at migrants and holidaymakers, highlighting the best of the Harbour City and advising how to survive and thrive, but I also want long-term Sydneysiders to fall in love with their city anew when viewing through my eyes (and my rose-tinted glasses!).

I'll be posting helpful info on how to connect utilities, how to get around, what licenses are needed, etc...as well as rating key attractions and events and blogging the best places to go and things to do.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

The definitive SYDNEY NEWBIE logo & professional-looking stationery (business card, letterhead, envelope stamp, etc.) that encapsulates my:

* GOAL (to become Sydneys most prominent cheerleader on-line and in the media, promoting Sydney in an informative, entertaining fashion),

* PERSONALITY (creative, hard case, but always professional and, hopefully, cutting edge), AND

* this beautiful Australian city.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Newcomers to Sydney (migrants are chiefly from the United Kingdom, New Zealand and China) and holidaymakers (from everywhere, but mainly from around Australia, New Zealand and Asia).

I want them to see www.sydneynewbie.com as the definitive, one-stop shop for all relevant info about Sydney - what to see, where to go, what to do, how to act...etc.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

I saw these before the logos were selected by the clients, so I dont know who won or notbut these certainly caught my eye for their cleverness, class and simplicity:

Mamtas Clever Clicksthe Gamers Portal by Metzloopdloop for Virtual 3Cctlupfers Curious Loopsq1rsas mobiventa (V clever, looks awesome as a 2-colour app & has a killer action device)galbiatis Agency Matrixand globcadd for Agency Matrix (gr8 device, less fussed with the font).

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Sydney is renowned for its weather (gorgeous and sunny), harbour (lots of blue water to go with the blue skies) and terrific icons (Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Sydney Tower, Luna Park, ferries, etc.).

As a one-man band (and a start-up) I need to make an immediate impact, so the logo needs to help me punch above my weight by being eye-catching, modern and clever.

I need a logo that incorporates the name SYDNEY NEWBIEand can be used in a horizontal form (as a header for the website, for instance) as well as stacked vertically with the Sydney on top of the Newbie (for a logo/crest on a cap, for instance).

I would love to have an icon to accompany the namean icon that may over time be used in isolation without having to refer to Sydney Newbie. In other words, an icon that will eventually stand on its own (like a Nike swoosh or a Vodafone speech mark).

Sydney Newbie is definitely NOT old school, flowery or boring.

Colours should either reflect Sydneys hot climate & emphasis on water (ie blues of various hues!) or be modern and upmarket (Im a fan of purple and shiny silvers & chromes).

In terms of integration with other marketing toolsIm going to develop my Sydney Newbie persona with a.) a funky pair of rose-tinted glasses (still to be sourced), b.) a classic tuxedo/dinner suit (a la James Bond) and potentially a pair of pom poms (as Im looking to do a video of Sydney Newbie cheerleading/dancing at/in/around the citys most recognizable icons).

Incidentally, if anyone has a love of Sydney thoughts to share or photos youd be happy for me to include on the site, with an appropriate credit, feel free to email me at sydneynewbie@gmail.com. Cheers cobbers!
