untethered is the name of our new company (legal name is Untethered Media). We provide marketing services and solutions for new media and emerging technologies, with a focus on mobile and social.
Our goal is to provide business executives with the knowledge and tools to manage their brands in a volatile and diversifying media landscape. To reach their customers through preferred methods of interaction increasingly defined by mobile and social.
untethereds solutions are about interaction models, not advertising. Models that create valuable opportunities for communication and transaction. Specifically, we deliver strategy and development for mobile web, mobile native apps, sms and social messaging, social widgets and other web applications.

Why did we name our company untethered?
untethered is a concept that embodies the state of emerging media. Not confined or restricted. Liberated from traditional forms.
untethered goes beyond wireless and mobile hardware concepts to include the software applications and data/content that can be distributed, moved, mashed, shared and ported.
untethered means media freed from old definitions of location and ownership. Released from desktop, web portal, network and destination domain.
untethereds logo must evoke a sense of trust and clarity. Sophistication with a dash of adventure.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
The untethered logo will be used for our upcoming web site design, pdf versions of our reports, powerpoint presentations and other web and print applications.
The logo design includes the name untethered as we love this term by itself. But we do know that it may need context in some cases. We would also like the design to alternately be able to carry the term media as a small sub name (for use in certain applications like letterhead). In the future we may add other sub names like blog wiki or app.
Concepts must include:
1. Logo for the name untethered
(transparent but on background, white or any other color as part of design concept)
2. Logo version with the addition of media as sub name
(low prominence in placement, designed to add or remove)
3. Business card (no letterhead or stationary)
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
Our clients are primarily corporate executives, decision makers within Fortune 500 companies. Specifically they are business, marketing, product and creative executives. We also provide services as subcontractors for digital advertising agencies, management consulting firms and software-as-a-service providers. Their end customers are the same corporate executives.
Both the corporate and agency clients expect us to have a high level of knowledge, experience, integrity and the ability to come up with unique and impactful ideas.
We want our current and potential clients to recognize us as trusted agents of change and producers of innovative solutions that will increase their return on investment.
PREFERENCES & THE DESIGNS WE LIKE:
Less is more. - Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (bauhaus design architect/leader)
Clean design. There are so many letters in untethered that it can be hard to read. This mandates a design that helps people read the word easily at a glance. No elaborate illustrative design but no plain type treatment either (strike a balance).
Open to colors. Except pastels and candy colors (no cute zone!).
Pelago logo design elicits idea of sharing and movement:
Use of geometric sans serif fonts (like futura, avenir and others) might look great. Heres an example:

Kaffeine communications logo and masthead a bit abstract but vibrant without being childish:
Gorilla Coffee web design elements sort of involved but wonderfully iconic:

We also love apples simple, post-industrial design (especially their clean packaging).
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (OR WE DON'T WANT TO SEE) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Type should either be all uppercase or all lowercase. Due to the number of words, it may be more legible all lowercase.
If there is any abstract design or illustration, there should be NO use of an unraveling tether or an de-linking design concept. We dont want to see any treatment that plays to negative sentiments of the term, untethered like unraveled or escaped.
All imagery must evoke positive thinking like liberated, evolved, free, expansive and self sufficient.
