Business Type - Boutique Private Equity / Holding Co. owned by two investing families.
Company Objective - 2 Trains Capital will be searching for and acquiring, maximizing and operating businesses. We will not focus on starting up businesses and our objective is not to buy "clean up" and sell companies quickly for a profit. We are operators. We want to buy companies that we like, maximize their operations and own them in our families for a long-time. We will focus on companies that are involved with technology, web-based, services,etc. and that are able to be managed virtually. We most likely will purchase what are typically referred to as "life-style" businesses which means that they are most often family owned and operated and their primary finanical objective is to provide financial benefit to the owners over a middle to long-term horizon primarily through the provision of monthly cash-flow. Right now we see ourselves buying and operating anywhere from 3-6 businesses within the portfolio.
Description of the Owners - We are experienced entrepreneurs/business families. We are gen-xers. We are not traditional "Private Equity" guys as most people would think of it. We are non-conformists and generally take a contrarian point of view. We value creating community, creating experience, opportunity, flexibility, not being boxed in to one course of action. We value time with our families and having fun with whatever you do (business or personal). If we are not having fun, then it is not worth it no matter how much money we make. If given the choice to make $20 million and never see our families or $300 thousand and maximize time with our families we would choose the $300 thousand option. We value autonomy and critical thought. We value relationships built on genuine communication and trust. We value straightforward and open discussion of all possible outcomes even if we know that the discussion could be painful. We value the risk/reward relationship and have a high risk tolerance. We value being edgy and trying to live with a different mindset than most of our peers. We value mobility and the opportunities provided by operating businesses virtually. We try to take a long-term view of all situations. We do not look at our business endeavors as separate from our family. One primary objective of our business is to provide a real world avenue to teach our children the value of business ownership. The logo is a corporate brand, but really is a graphic of who we are I guess. Truthfully, the two partners are full of themselves but we do it in a loveable way! Just ask our wives.

This is challenging for us. Our job in the holding company is to source potential companies to acquire and to successfully acquire some. In order to do this our job will be to talk to anyone within our network and let them know what we are doing so that that can see if they know of anyone that might be interested in talking. We do not have a specific audience. We dont want people we talk to think of us as stodgy "private equity" guys or "typical" business types, but we also need to make sure that they find us credible. We want people to want to be associated with us.
