Business Info

Business Name

Paperity ("paper" is a popular term for a scientific article)

What do you do?

It will be a website that aggregates scholarly articles from thousands of different academic journals and publishers, facilitates dissemination of new discoveries and enables online communication between authors and readers (social features). All articles in electronic form, freely available in Open Access (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_access... Web: http://www.paperity.org/

What is the exact name you would like in your logo?

You'll receive designs for biz cards, letterhead and envelopes.

Letterhead should fit A4 paper size and be delivered as an MS Word file, .DOC or .DOCX, that can be used right away to write a letter, without additional configuration. These files in addition to image files.

Target Audience

What is your industry?

Education and Universities

Describe the target audience for your logo and stationery

Age 25-60. Location global. Highly professional: PhD, PhD candidates, and above. Working in academia or research laboratories, or still studying.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your logo and stationery?

Knowledge, wisdom, innovation; openness; tradition + modernity. Using modern tools to continue long tradition of academic communication that dates back 300 years ago. Being part of a global community of scholars.

Style and Concept

What logo and stationery styles do you like (text only, image only, text and image, etc.)?

Text + image, image on the same line as text or embedded in a letter. Simple and clean. Pay attention to typography: a carefully chosen font is a big plus.

It's good if a tagline can be embedded below the main text: either "open science aggregated" or "science aggregated", with possibility to change the exact text in the future and to use the logo both with and without the tagline.

What colors do you want to see in your logo and stationery?

On the website, logo will be put on a dark background, ~80% grey, so there must be versions both for white and dark backgrounds, with the latter being primary one. In the current draft design of the website, background is #2e3436, and there are color boxes of #eddb9b (light yellow) and #a0c4d5 (light blue) - but do not feel constrained by these specific colors, they can be adapted to play well with the logo, and logo is more important at the moment.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your logo and stationery?

no special requirements

What adjectives should best describe your logo and stationery?

innovative, warm & safe (feel like sitting in a library), clean

Where will your logo be used (print, website, etc.)?

Web + PowerPoint presentations. On the own website (dark background), but also on other websites (light background), where links/banners to this website will be put using full logo or just the image part.

Do you have additional info or links you want to share?

Some concepts for the image that you may play with:
- lightbulb (Edison, creativity, innovation)
- light (Einstein, groundbreaking discoveries)
- paper as a symbol of knowledge accumulated for centuries
- "connecting the dots" (logical and systematic reasoning, solid research)
- magnifying glass (insight, curiosity)
- unlocked padlock, like in Open Access logo
- letter P in Paperity
- letter "i": separates "Paper" from the suffix, has simple shape that resembles sheat of paper
Feel free to come up with other concepts, too.
