What is this challenge? Sirius Data is sponsoring an Indoor Gym Quadrathlon in aid of charities around the time of Remembrance Sunday, hence the 1111 theme i.e. armistice day/veterans day 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month. The likely date will be Saturday 13th November 2010. Unless it is really popular and the event will need to be spread over a few days.
There will be teams of four people. Each individual will do 1.1Km on a X-Trainer, then 2.22Km on a row; 3.33Km on a run and lastly 4.44Km on a bike = 11.11Km. Each team must represent a Armed Forces charity & a Civilian charity. The winning team will be the one that has the best overall time COMBINED with the most money raised (a mathematical equation provides a ranking). Sirius will then donate 1,111 to the winning team's Armed Force's charity they have represented PLUS 1,111 to the winning team's Civilian charity. Note, there is no restriction on what a team has to raise i.e. it could be 1 or 10k. It is the combinaton that is important to make it more fun & inclusive. There are two or, three gyms competing in the first year (we hope this will grow & grow & become a yearly challenge & the challenge may evolve & change e.g. 11km run & 11km bike duathalon etc.) Please ensure there is flexibility to maybe include the gym's logo - so far it is two David LLoyd gym's http://www.davidlloyd.co.uk taking part, with a third up for consideration if their kit is the same. Part of the difficulty is to ensure the gyms have the same kit calibrated to the same level to make it a fair challenge. I may at some point also add a individual fastest time award & awards for best name etc. I have commissioned substantial modern design trophy - see attached design.
Please note the award will be given on the day if possible so will be based on a cut-off point for donations (say 9.00am in the morning of the 13th). People can still raise more monies afterwards if they want to, but they will not be counted on the day towards the award to the winning team. NB I will be trying to create a page with one of the charitable online donation companies like Just Giving to show ranking of teams and totalisers - see very good example here on Oxfam's site http://www.oxfam.org.uk/get_involved/fun...
Our aim is to get a number of charities represented. A hugely popular one in the UK currently is Helpforheores.org.uk I love the stretcher bearer logo (but it has restricted use - probably will not be allowed to use it for this.) I like the boldness & iconic imagery of this. I had it mind maybe that a similar (but obviously doesn't infringe on copyrights etc) type of image could be created but with a shadow/mirror of civilians or outline of the the gym competitors doing the challenges? So, armed personnel imagery mirrored by civilians doing their bit? See also http://www.britishlegion.org.uk/about-us...
Perhaps the Poppy could be used as well - (will need to get permission.) My actual team is likely to represent either The British Legion and/or the TheSoldierscharity.com. I will leave other teams to represent Help for Heroes. Indeed, I will probably represent a few armed services charities as I will enter a number of teams (so it is likely British Legion & Soldier's Charities will allow permission to use their imagery in conjunction with what is designed here). Haven't chosen civilian charities yet. I also like the thought of the army phrase: "Get Some" but maybe soften it with "Get Some Charity" I guess I need to be careful not to offer too many confusing messages or restrict designers' thinking! Just my brief & some of my thoughts...
I have used Crowdspring a good number of times now so I am really looking forward to seeing results for this one!
