LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

J-U-V-O (WITHOUT the hyphens) is a web site that connects service providers in the home improvement vertical (plumbers, contractors, electricians, roofers) to customers with needs around the house. The site connects you instantly with your friends through social networking services, such as facebook, and myspace, so that you can benefit from their reviews and insight about your local community. People start projects, pick the right service providers, and leave reviews in the format we're familiar with, with stars and an opinion.

The site makes it easy to create a project, upload photos, and share your project with your friends. So the site is focused on the home and your friends circle, but the site is very community-oriented. The most important thing for our business to convey to our customers is TRUST, so when you're designing the logo, please keep this in mind. To sum up what we're trying to do: A free and social Angie's List with a strong underling community.

Finally, the heart of J-u-v-o is in its meaning; it is Latin, for 'Assistance', or 'Help'.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We're looking for stationary such as business cards, and letterheads. The logo itself will be put publicly in front of both service providers (whom will interact with the service on a business level) and customers. But most importantly, we need a really, really strong logo to flow with the spirit and color scheme of the site (the color scheme will go with the logo scheme). A common theme here seems to be 'fun' and 'serious'; this is appropriate, but really what we are looking for most is something that evokes the feelings of TRUST. So, colors that we would psychologically associate with that, but also feelings such as cool and simple. So, the color scheme is not going to look like Yelp's or Netflix's, with big, brand, and bold.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Our customers are two types: Homeowners, and people who have issues around the home, so 30+, both male and female. Secondly, service providers, who run local businesses, who are serious about their work, but are looking for potential customers. So, the audience is both coming to the site for friendly inquiries and a professional relationship.

www.servicemagic.com This is our main competitor, and their color scheme is designed around similar themes. You can see the similarity in many of the leading lead generation sites www.qualitysmith.com www.calfinder.com . The blue evokes a cool feeling, and the logo is great: The M is a homeowner and contractor shaking hands. (Service magic) You can see the three-tone logo with the contractor head being yellow. also, the ICON.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

What we MUST HAVE:

An ICON!!! Absolutely, 100% important. Yelp has the flower, Qualitysmith has the Q, Servicemagic has the M. WE MUST HAVE AN ICON! whether it be something you associate with ratings and reviews , or home improvement, or friends, or community, whatever.

Think about an iphone icon. Would this icon go well on an iphone? (it doesnt have to be in a block, but would it fit in one nicely?) Can you put this icon on a button? on a FLAG? Design the icon for a rallying point for a service, as it will be printed everywhere. it can be integrated with the design, as Qualitysmith's is, or it can be next to it, such as yelp, servicemagic, and bookfresh. Be creative!

But please include an icon!
