LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Aviation Vacations offers preplanned "self-fly" trips for private pilots. The pilot-customer will choose from a variety of locations Alaska, the Southwest, California Wine Country, and more and will fly a predetermined route (along with a local pilot guide, if desired) that showcases the highlights of the region, stopping along the way for fun adventures. All accommodations, transfers, and activities are included. Trips will run from 3 to 14 days.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
A logo and business card design. The logo will be used on our website, www.AviationVacationsUSA.com and on other promotional materials and signage. Once the logo is finalized we will use crowdspring to source the designs of these other pieces.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
We will be targeting Private Pilots -- those who fly single-engine airplanes for pleasure. This group is 94% male and 49 years old, on average. Net worth is typically higher than then the general population.
Although pilots really don't MIND being considered adventurous and daring (and may even foster that notion), in reality a pilot must be extremely safety conscious and adhere to strict guidelines and rules. Therefore, people who earn their pilot's license tend to be methodical and fairly technically oriented... definitely not crazy daredevils.
We would like the logo to appeal to the fun, adventurous "alter-ego" side of these pilots. Key adjectives for the logo design: Adventurous. Fun. Heroic. And maybe just a touch of... Nostalgia.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
The "Indiana Jones" style would likely appeal to this audience (Harrison Ford is a private pilot, BTW), but we don't want really the logo to be a direct knock off of this look, which has grown a little tired. It could, however, serve as inspiration.
We are also attracted to the old retro style travel postcards of the 50s and 60s (examples attached), but admit they do seem very... busy.
Along more modern lines, we like the simplicity of the "AssetHound" and "4gorges" logos found here: www.4gorges.com.
We also like the "recruit.net" logo (also attached) because of how the graphical icon treatment works with the type.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
The company name is Aviation Vacations, Inc. but the URL is AviationVacationsUSA. Although we PREFER to use "Aviation Vacations USA" for the logo, we worry that it will be too long and unwieldy to look good. Therefore, I will let the designers choose to use either "Aviation Vacations USA" or "Aviation Vacations."
Our main concerns are that the logo be professional, polished, legible and MEMORABLE.
Please incorporate this tagline with the logo: "Off we go." The logo will be used with and without the tagline.
Please design a logo that uses type and an icon. We want to be able to use the icon portion on its own.
We prefer to have a vector-based Illustrator logo, but will accept PhotoShop if it's required for the design.
