Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

KnowledgeWorks Intranet Ltd

What do you do?

We develop the cloud hosted document management service/software - Filestar. The software is very easy to use and lets users scan paper directly from their copier to a secure server hosted by us. The user does not need to do anything else - the paper is converted to a searchable PDF and they can use any web browser to search and view the documents. You can read more at

Describe the target audience for your landing page

Our target is any business that needs to remove the need to manually file paper in cabinets. These could be small businesses to departments in large businesses. The individuals making the decision are most likely non-technical and involved in an administrative role. We would also like to believe that our audience is very familiar with all of the new gadgets like iPads and iPhones, Twitter, Facebook etc.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your landing page?

1. The software is very easy to use and set up.
2. It will save them time and money.
3. We are doing things differently from our old fashioned, stuffy, overpriced competitors in a much more cool and effective way.

How is your company different from your competitors?

We have simplified the whole process of getting paper into a digital archive - cut out all of the fat that our competitors add to justify their expensive offerings. We care more about what the customer wants to achieve and the experience, rather than boasting about technical mumbo-jumbo. We are firmly in with the new generation Web 2.0 crowd instead of living in the past. In terms of image and presentation is the complete antithesis of what we are.

What landing page design styles do you like?

Minimal in a West-Coast cool way - e.g. Twitter, Apple. I really like the 'Tour' page on I'd like it to be clean and simple with large text fonts. No photos (our competitors tend to use stock images of paper stacks and copiers - YUK!!) - instead I would like 'sketchy' style art or some variant. Would be good to have a banner near the top.
I was happy with our existing site at but I want something a bit more minimal with less wording and more 'relaxed' (but I like the large fonts). The logo from their can be re-used - you can change it's colour if you want. Again I'll refer you to for inspiration with respect to art style/icons etc.

What colors do you want to see in your landing page?

I want to have a basic colour palette - preferably with a light (or white) background. Light blues would be good but I'll leave it to you.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your landing page?

pinks, browns, dark colours - anything that looks stuffy and staid.

What adjectives should best describe your landing page?

What content must be included in the landing page?

Logo at the top.
Banner with some art to abstractly depict what the software does - e.g. take paper from copier, upload to cloud based archive and easily search and view using web browser (could incorporate a copier, a person, some paper, a cloud and a computer/web browser)
Section to high-light some key features (again see
Section for 'How-It-Works' - (incorporating some icons or art) - e.g. step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4.
Section for customer quotes.

Do you have additional info or links you'd like to share?

What I totally do NOT want - (yuk! yuk! yuk!)
What I really like -
Love all things Apple and
Like (a bit TOO minimal though)

Brief updates

I mentioned 'sketchy' art style in the brief but this could be any kind a drawn style (ink, pen etc).

Also the section for the 'Features' could be just a short list without the wordy details. The Features could be:
1. Scan and archive your documents directly from your copier
2. Easily search and view documents using any web browser
3. Works with a wide range of copiers from all of the major brands
4. Advanced features such as document retention policies and audit trails

The 'How It Works' section will be a short list (up to 4 steps) with some wording (e.g Step 1. bla bla bla Step 2. bla bla bla etc and ideally it would be nice to have a graphical element against each of these - or against the features list.

Just expanded the text for the Features and How It Works sections.

1. Scan and archive your documents directly from your copier
2. Easily search and view documents using any web browser
3. Works with a wide range of copiers from all of the major brands
4. Advanced features such as document retention policies and audit trails

How It Works
1: Use your copier/scanner to scan the paper documents.
2: The Filestar Cloudconnector converts your scans to fully searchable PDF files and imports them directly into the secure Filestar Cloud server.
3. The Filestar Cloud server automatically names and files your documents to a folder using simple rules that you define. These rules also let you define what access control to set for the documents.
4. Your documents can now be searched and viewed by using any modern web browser.
5. Extensive retention policies lets you control how and when these documents are expired.
