LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

We have developed an advanced Flex data visualization tool to analyze the U.S. Budget. The tool will be used by anyone (political junkies, bloggers, news organization, education) who is interested in getting a better understanding of how the US budget is spent. The tool is highly interactive and allows the users to interact with the data including drilling into the data by double-clicking and creating comparison charts by dragging and dropping. The tool can be viewed at http://visualmoo.com/government

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

A landing page (please see the attached schematic) for the tool. The landing page should be designed to quickly convey the value of VisualMoo and allow the users to access the tool. The following elements should be on the landing page:

Communication of product features: We believe the best way to do this is by calling out all of the benefits on a screen shot of the product (see schematic). However, we are open to other options of communicating the features. Communication of the features should be done WITHOUT user interaction (ie requiring the user to roll-over an item to get the description).

Clear call to action: The launch / start / go button must be clear and easy to find.

Area for advertising: Area for advertising on either the right side of the page and/or a bottom banner.

Logo a logo has already been developed and should be included.

Possible Reskining of Flex Visualization Tool

The current design of the Flex Visualization Tool is extremely clean and incorporates a tremendous amount of white space. This was done on purpose to ensure the user is focused on the information, and not on the design. This design CAN stay the same. However, we need to have a consistent user experience between the landing page and the application. So, if you have developed a landing page design that is completely different than the application, please provide design suggestions for the application so that the user does not have a disjointed experience. The design suggestion could include: fonts, background colors, line colors and thickness, chart colors.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Political Junkies

Political Bloggers

Government Users

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

We like vintage educational materials, simple icons, and steps in process (see attached materials titled, WeLikeThis). This concept should work well with VisualMoo as we are trying to educate the public about the U.S. Budget, but we are also trying to educate the user on how to use VisualMoo.

We also like the concept of a 1950s child pointing out the features of the site, similar to this site:

http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/home/hom...

Finally, we are fans of the vintage art deco travel posters in the art deco style, for example:

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

A clean consistent design. The focus of VisualMoo is on the information; we do not want to distract users with superfluous design elements.

Consistent feel as the user goes from the landing page to the application. If you have developed a design that requires and update (colors and fonts) to the application, please include that information.
