Principles, which will be the guiding principles for transportation
projects in the Tahoe Basin. Lake Tahoe is an international mountain

We would like to have a creative choose 5 of the 9 principles and
design simple, informative and eye-catching illustrations/sketches are
needed for the nine principles below. The illustrations will accompany
the principles in the final document as well as community workshop
materials. After the award has been given, we would like to negotiate
a contract with the award recipient for the final 4 principles as well
as up to an additional 25 larger graphics and drawings.
Mobility sources include - walking, cycling, trolley bus, and
automobile. We recognize that the auto is currently the primary mode
of transportation, but want to offer choices with new trails and
facilities. A study is underway for a small ferry/aquabus across the
No monorails or trains are planned at this time.
1. Connected Places
Neighborhoods, communities and the Basin are connected with pedestrian
paths, bike trails, green ways, complete streets, scenic corridors,
water trails and efficient transit.
2. Env friendly Transportation Choices
Safe, convenient, environmentally friendly and active transportation
options will reduce our GHG emissions, improve Basin air quality and
the health of residents.
3. Livable and Healthy Communities
Transportation systems connect affordable housing with jobs, scenic
attractions and recreational amenities. Transit centers connect places
where people live, work, meet by chance, gather, observe, and play.
4. Safe and Accessible
Communities are walkable and interconnected, meeting the needs of
families with safe routes to schools and convenient access to daily
needs. Pedestrians and bicyclists are safe and respected.
5. Flexible and Adaptive Systems
Transportation systems are adaptive, improving the experience of
residents and visitors during seasonal variability. Designed for
everyday use, transportation is open, accessible and attracts a
diversity of people.
6. Green Streets and Corridors
Streets and corridors will protect the lake tahoe environment. Streets
serve as regional storm water management systems, helping to meet
Basin environmental thresholds and improve Lake clarity.
7. Reliable Systems and Services
Transportation systems evolve using technology to improve service,
convenience and efficiency. Infrastructure and schedules are
integrated to create simple and efficient transit.
8. Place Based
Support existing communities with placed based investment.
Transportation infrastructure will be Context Based and built to
reflect the enduring beauty of the Basin.
9. Partner for success
Private sector reinvestment will leverage federal and state funding to
create a transit system that is the envy of the world.
Who Is Your Audience?
The audience for this document is residents of the Tahoe Basin and engineers/contractors working with the Tahoe Transportation District. The illustrations should portray the Transportation District as a accessible, inclusive, forward thinking agency committed to improving the experience of residents and visitors and protecting the natural environment.
