LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Mama Bear Books is a new venture to design and manufacture keepsake baby journals and photo albums. Our style is eclectic-modern, for busy but organized parents. Our goal is to be sold in maternity, baby, toy and book boutiques.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We need a series of 4-5 animal illustrations for use on the cover of a photo album for a baby or young child.
The animal illustrations must work on any color, and be gender-neutral. Think hip, not too cutesy. Would be great to include graphic elements like stars, numbers and letters, dot and/or stripe patterns. The animals should have a unifying theme, such as but certainly NOT limited to:
-- Jungle animals: lions, monkeys, crocodiles, parrots, etc.
-- Zoo animals. I suppose this could be any group of animals, but they should make sense together.
-- Circus animals in costume, like elephants, lions, bears, etc. No clowns. Clowns are scary.
-- Toys, like animals as pull-toys, rocking toys, stuffed animals, wooden toys, etc.
-- Unlikely animal friends, like mice and elephants, fish and birds, cats and dogs, etc.
The animal illustrations will be heat debossed into the album cover material, which is Vivella PU. Vivella has a soft leather-like surface and feel. The heat debossing causes the Vivella to actually melt a little, and darken. The debossing also creates a very tactile surface that shows off lines and patterns well. Debossing requires that the artwork is black and white only, vector format.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
New mothers, women who are expecting, adoptive mothers, age 25-40. These women read Dwell magazine, Cookie magazine, Domino magazine. They shop at Land of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids. They appreciate well-crafted, stylish keepsake items for their babies.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
We created the attached circus elephant illustration as one example of the style were looking for.
Dwell Studios animal silhouette patterns especially the animal-based Gio print. But wed like detail within the silhouettes.
Wild Kingdom poster from Land of Nod.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
Must be vector art, AI & EPS formats. At least 4 separate, different animal figures. Must be black and white ONLY.
Although we are fond of highly graphic illustration like the ones included here, you may also submit pen, ink, woodcut, linocut, scratchboard-style illustrations - anything than can be easily converted to vector art. Things like watercolor or pastel just wont work with our black and white debossing specs.
