LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:
Rogue Monk LLC is a Los Angeles design company that focuses on fun youth market (15-25) clothing, accessories, fun stuff. We see our competition as brands like Volcom, Ocean Pacific, Sketchers. We aim at a college market. We like products that feel fun. And smart.
HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:
We want a modern illustration of the ROGUE MONK CHARACTER. In Japan, the rogue monk is the wise trickster, the genius/fool, a person who dances to their own drum. On wikipedia you can look up "Yamabushi" or "Bodhidharma" or the monk Ji Gong -- or Crazy Ji, as the monk was known, who was an unconventional and uninhibited Chinese Buddhist hermit and poet from the 12th century. A sort of Chinese Robin Hood, this well known figure from ancient China was known for his supernormal powers and compassion for the poor and disenfranchised as well as his eccentric or "deliberate" behavior. He was revered by the Taoists who adopted him as one of their deities. He was involved in many of the classic koans of the Zen sect. He has been popularized in a TV series and various movies.
OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:
American (and international) youth culture.
WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:
Aim for clean and simple, Adobe Illustrator preferred, but it can be anything, pen and ink scanned in, etc. Ideally this could reproduce small. We love a simple character design like Mickey Mouse, Hello Kitty, but it could be as complicated as a complex tattoo or comic book character.
WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:
It is "Asian influenced" but we are not an Asian brand, we are global but we appreciate the philosophy of Zen, etc.
