LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

I am a DIY musician. I call my project band Groove Duke. The style of music we play is retro-soul or you might call it retro-horn-band.

You can see the previous job I posted here for a logo. I was extremely pleased with the results. We are constantly getting comments on how cool the logo is. I am now ready to release an album of original tunes. But I need some illustrations.

This is where you come in.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

The album title is: Heavy Mariner

I have the cover illustration all ready, but I need it colored. How you handle the coloring/inking is up to you, but the original artwork remains the intellectual property of J. Ingram, the artist. (We used this as a poster for a band we had together back in the day. I wanted to re-purpose it for my first album cover and he was cool with that, but is out of the illustration business now.) This is an oddly proportioned piece for a CD cover, so I may make it a wrap-around cover. You might keep that in mind. However I also plan to make an online version for people who download the album So make sure everything looks cool at computer screen size as well. It will also probably end up on the Point of Sale poster.

In addition, I need an illustration to complement the cover illustration. I'm thinking of one of the mariners from the original illustration in another pose with a harpoon. To place somewhere else in the package.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

The target audience is horn band fans. That means H.S. and college band geeks as well as their parents (who many times were band geeks themselves). The Album tagline might "One ton of screaming inertia with horns." (Get the Rhinos now?)

Any way, aim for the H.S./College marching band audience and you won't be to far off.

WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:

I love Marvel Comics from the 60s. So you might think splash page or Cover art colors.

I love watercolors, so that might be a way to go.

I love Maurice Sendak so Illustrating it like a childrens book might be cool too.

I like Roger Dean, so while I couldn't do trippy for the band's logo. It might work well for the album.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:

Color and B&W versions of the illustrations (I don't know if I'll have the budget for color printing).

at least one illustration of the heavy Mariner from the cover in a different pose.
