A man in need

What do you do?

I am a mechanical engineer who does a lot of work with 3D CAD. I have made the brave/stupid move of starting my own company 12 months ago and hence very little cash! However my girlfriend has made the more brave/stupid decision of asking me to marry her. Due to financial constraints, family issues and mainly down to the romantic gesture, we have decided to elope.

We booked a weekend away in 3 weeks time to get married in secret with 5 of our closest friends. Our friends dont currently know that they are coming. The girls think that they are going a spa weekend that my fianc on the radio and the boys think that I am treating them to a weekend of camping for helping me out with some work a few weeks back. We are colluding to get them to the airport at which point we will break the news should be quite a story. The plan is to then get publically engaged and then get married again in a couple of years time when we have the money to do a full works wedding.

Due to the orthodox manner in which we are getting marries, it has made the ring choice even more impossible than normal. Also being an engineer, I should feel obliged to have some input into the ring. However being a typical engineer, I also have very little artistic talent and have left everything to the last minute!

This project is design a three ring set concept. Your illustrations will be used as a basis to build a 3D cad model. The 3D model will then be used to fabricate the ring. Therefore, ideally I want line art drawing that show some example colour. The drawing should be clear enough to show how the ring set will fit together.

How many pages of illustration do you need?

You should provide at least three drawings; An illustration of how the first ring will look in isolation, An illustration of how the first ring and second ring will look in combination, An illustration of all three rings together

Does your illustration need to be a particular size?

Your illustrations will be used as a basis to build a 3D cad model. The 3D model will then be used to fabricate the ring. Therefore, ideally I want line art drawing that show some example colour. The drawing should be clear enough to show how the ring set will fit together.

Describe the target audience for your illustration

She is a an outdoor girl who is always very hands on! She wants to be able to wear this set of rings all day everyday and not have to take them off, even when riding a horse, lifting hay bales or mountain biking. She currently doesnt remove any jewellery that she wears.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your lillustration?

Elegant, understated and subtle. However on closer inspection it should intricate and complex.
Ultimately this ring should be unique!

This is your chance to influence a product that will be used for hopefully decades to come!

What colors do you want to see in your illustration?

She does not like yellow gold based rings. She prefers silver colour rings. We are likely to commission the ring in silver or in white gold (if we can afford it).
We are happy to consider other materials, as long as we can get it fabricated easily
She is not apposed to having different colours within the overall design as long as the ring has a silver bias. SSee attached pdf for examples

She is not apposed to having a big gem as a centre piece to a design, however it should be recessed/protected, again avoiding any overly protruding features. Equally, as you can see form the sample pictures, she seams to like designs that just have multiple stones.

She likes, in order, blue sapphires, blue diamonds, regular diamonds, pink diamonds, emeralds, black diamonds. Combinations are acceptable.
