What do you do?
Everyday Feminism is one of the most popular feminist digital media sites in the world, with over 4.5 million monthly visitors from over 150 countries.
Our mission is to help people heal from and stand up to everyday violence, discrimination, and marginalization through applied intersectional feminism.
We aim to shift our culture to end the everyday violence, discrimination, and marginalization that people face due to their gender, sexual orientation, race, class, size, ability, and other social differences.
We seek to create a more just world where we can accept ourselves for who we truly are, where we respect each others right to self-determination, and where we nurture and are nurtured in loving communities.
Describe the target audience for your header design
People who identify as feminists, activists, and progressives and who work in the social movements and the nonprofit sector. Most are 20-40's years old and 2/3 are in the US.
Does your header need to be a specific size?
Facebook page cover image: 851 pixels wide by 315 pixels tall
What is your industry?
Publishing and Media
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your header design?
The cover image should convey the idea that Everyday Feminism is made up of our communities and that we are working to support our communities in carrying out their feminist practices. So we didn't really want EF to be front and center as much as we wanted our base to be the center of the image.
Some initial ideas are:
- Some sort of sign saying "Welcome to Everyday Feminism"
- General scene of rolling green field
- People who are doing everyday activities that could be feminist-y (such as talking, reading, creating protest signs, on their laptops, group discussion with large easel paper capturing notes, etc) who are scattered on the field and are in groups, pairs, or alone
After we select a general image, we will work with the graphic designer to make sure that there is a wide range of visible identities represented such as people of different gender expressions and racial backgrounds, abilities like in a wheelchair, religions like a Muslim woman wearing a headscarf, etc.
Style and Concept
What header design styles do you like?
We'd like to balance keeping the cover image simple enough to be easily understood with it conveying enough of the community to be meaningful. So a balance of clean lines with expressive facial and body gestures.
We'd like the setting to be a positive place like: http://img13.deviantart.net/560d/i/2006/...
