Business Info

Business Name

Q-Star Technology

What do you do?

We manufacture portable battery operated security products.

Do you have specific size requirements for the icons or buttons?

Icons should be sized 64x64.

How many different icons and/or buttons do you need designed?

6 different icons (1 schedule icon, and 5 variations of a device icon)

Target Audience

What is your industry?

There is no typical industry for our product. The end user could be police departments, parks, HOA's, construction companies, etc.

Describe the target audience for your icon or button design

Given the wide range of end users there is no single demographic which describes the target audience.

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your icon or button design?

The device icons should immediately give an indication as to the status of a particular device AND which device is connected. While there can be multiple devices listed, only one can be connected at a time. This connected device should stand out.

Style and Concept

What icon or button design styles do you like?

These (link below) Vista icons have the general look and feel we are after. In fact, the date and time icon would nearly be perfect for our use.

What colors do you want to see in your icon or button design?

There are no preferred colors. Feel free to use any. The product logo design does make use of white, RGB 239,65,35 and RGB 24,42,51. The use of those colors is not necessary, and if used, it would probably be best not go overboard with the colors.

What colors do you NOT want to see in your icon or button design?

What adjectives should best describe your icon or button design?

Clean, modern

What content must be included in the icon or button design?

The schedule icon should contain a visual reference to a calendar and/or a clock. The devices are scheduled on a 7 day basis (only Mon-Sun are relevant) so perhaps a full calendar might not be most appropriate here.

The device icons need to represent 5 different possible states of the device. The different states are:

1) Connected
2) Connected and in need of an update
3) Disconnected
4) Disconnected and in need of an update
5) Connected, Error communicating with device

If a view of the device is incorporated in the icon (not required), it should not have great detail.

In someway states 1,2 and 5 need to stand out more than 3 and 4 because these are connected states. Perhaps states 3 and 4 are semi transparent?

Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?

Attached are two screen shots showing where the images will be used in the application. The devices screen shot shows the use of color blocks for place holders to represent the different states. The images would replace these blocks.

The final screenshot is a view of the device.
